Android or iPad
I am not certain whether or not to get an iPad. I have an android phone and am relatively happy with my Logos 4 on the device, but I can't help but wonder what advantages would be found using an iPad. I don't know anyone who has an iPad with Logos 4. Any advice from anyone will be appreciated. Gene Van ***

The Logos app is more developed in iOS, but the Android version is catching up - for example, search was just added. Only online search, though. Offline search should be coming later.
They're fairly similar in terms of features otherwise.

I can't speak for Android since I've never used it, but I'm a huge fan of iOS and the iPad. Aside from Logos sync issues which I believe have affected every mobile platform, I've enjoyed using Logos in my iPad. Easy to use, easy to read, and with the elegance of iOS behind it.
I know, as has been mentioned, that the Android app is catching up in terms of features, so it's really just a matter of deciding which platform you prefer.

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but you cannot run Logos 4 on an iPad - it's the Logos iOS app which functions on the iPad - with much reduced functionality as compared to Logos 4 on your main computer.
I enjoy using the Logos iOS app on my iPad. I use it mainly for reading my resources as I would do a conventional book, and using it for my daily Bible reading. So long as I stick to following my daily reading plan on my iPad only, and making sure it's connected to the Internet to sync or update regularly, I've not experienced syncing issues on it for a while now.
We've been informed that note-taking and highlighting features are being worked on and will be released in the foreseeable future. When that happens, the Logos experience on the iPad will get that much better.

As others have said it comes down to which OS you would prefer. I have to say I have read reports that Samsung, Asus, and Motorola have not ordered parts for their tablets for the upcoming year. This does not bode well for Android tablets. Looking at pricing this holiday season they are coming down as none of the Android manufacturers seem to be able to compete with Apple. I have an iPad and would highly recommend them to anyone. I just switched to an iphone from Android so I have experience with Android. The Android OS is not bad but iOS is just plain better. The fragmented nature of Android, along with its openness some seem to tout as a plus, but really just makes for inconsistent experience and open to virus', has been frustrating and the "it just works" nature of iOS has made me very happy with the environment.

My wife really likes her iPad. She uses it at church, etc. She received this one as a gift and I at first really did not think I would even use it. However, I too use it and find it more useful than even my larger computers at times (quick access to web, etc.) .... It is a great investment IMO.
We also have an iPhone. For my aging eyes I find it easier to use the iPad though - larger print, easier navigation - for me .....

Much as I dislike Apple's closed environment, my experience with an Android 2.3 phone so far biases me heavily toward anything else. Don't get me wrong--I like the phone & all its features, but I just _hate_ having to debug all the google/microsoft "can't-play-well-together" issues, given my "addiction" to MS Office.

Right you are.... I forgot to mention that... though this may not be a HUGE issue (since one wag jokes that a new convenience for electronic stores is a huge recyclying bin out front so you can toss your obsolete device in it on the way out after you purchase it <lol>), it is nonetheless an issue.
Trade news I follow refers to this as fragmenting or forking, caused by android h/w manufacturers who put their own shell around native android (to improve our "experience"), but thus making it harder to update when google releases a new version, so they finally drop support for it (as obsolete h/w) without ever updating it.
That's right behind syncing issues with Msoft, IMO. My next purchase is unlikely to be android... much more likely a W8 device or an iphone.

Yes.

If you mean a logos resource, no. If you mean an application, yes. Most computers have wifi cards nowadays, so you may be able to create a shared internet connection directly from your computer. If you had a Mac, I could help you with that...

Hi Milford. In answer to your two questions:
1. You can download resources on to your iPad to read when you're off-line. However you can't currently do this in bulk, you must go through each resource you wish to download, rather than stream. Be aware that not all resources in your Logos 4 library can be viewed on an iPad. Some publishers currently restrict the ability to read their resources on mobile devices. I believe Logos is trying to secure the right to view all resources in your library on your iPad, iPhone, etc. however this is a work in progress and will likely take some time. To check which resources can be viewed on an iPad, look for the little icons below the picture of the resource on the relevant resource page on the Logos website. You'll see some have an icon for iOS devices and some don't.
2. At present, I believe you can only download logos resources onto the iPad via WiFi, not via USB.

To me the main advantage of the iPad is reading - especially anything that you would read for more than five or ten minutes. To me the iPad is as good a reading in a paper book. Others would not agree, but for me is definately is. I can control the font size. I actually read faster and better on the iPad - whether theology or fiction.
I can download 3800+ resources to my iPad of my 4200 resources - which I think is pretty good. Also, in the NA26 Greek text, I can hold my finger over a word, and it will give me a gloss definition, the lemma form, and a Bible Word Study option. The Bible Word Study shows the different ways that the Greek word is used in the Greek New Testament, and gives me a link to BADG. Pretty neat, I think. In a couple of taps, I go from Greek NT to lexicon.
I should add that the Christian History Magazines are fantastic on the iPad! Especially those first 50 with all the pictures and graphics.
There are other things I like about the iPad and Logos, but reading is the main thing, in my humble opinion. Who wants to do extended reading on a computer? My whole Logos library is more valubable to me because of the iPad - at least the 3800+ books I can read on it.
For all I know an Android pad may do this just as welll. But I love my iPad.

I'm a PC person and I saw my first IPAD when I went into the Apple store to see what all the hub bub was about. I picked up an IPAD and within minutes and a few answered questions from the Apple employees I was using the IPAD. Everything I wanted to do seemed obvious to me after I learned what program Apple used to surf the web (safari) and a few other things like what gestures I could us and such.
I really enjoyed the IPAD and since I knew other tablets were coming out, some more like windows so I decided to wait for them. Well I waited and so far every table I have played with has a been a very huge disappointment. Perhaps the Sony wasn't really a very big disappointment but it still wasn't an IPAD. Frankly I don't see a future for tablets unless they mimic Apple and build both the operating system and the hardware. Right now the only tablet I would bother to carry home is an IPAD.
Since playing with the tablet I have checked out Apple IMAC and MAC BOOK PRO's and frankly the interaction between hardware and operating system is so superior to PC I can't believe I haven't going to APPLE yet. The touchpad on an apple is fantastic on PC Laptop's everyone has given up and plugged in a mouse.
I think the time is quickly coming and probably is here where the idea of industry wide operating system is falling behind the Apple concept of building both the operating system and the hardware and make the two work perfectly together. You can make is faster, smalled, quicker to boot and better functioning. You don't have to include code to figure out what kind of this or that you are running on, you know because you built it only to run on one machine.

I just stumbled over this in my debate as to keeping my Kindle Fire or getting a larger device. I currently own a Macbook Air but have considered getting something more portable. It's got 5 hours of battery life and it runs Logos with no problems on the 4 gigs of ram and dual core I5 it comes with. It's sealed and you can't upgrade it, though. Much like the iPad, you must buy it as you want it. I didn't see much mentioned in this thread about the Air and thought it might be of help to someone to toss that out. Sure, the base 11 inch air cost double what the base iPad does but... you have a complete computer with keyboard. :-) Hope this is of some help to somebody. God Bless!
