On Being intuitive

It seems to me that the software has become very powerful but it has become not so intuitive.  There are some things that are not hard to do "when you know how to do them" and remembering how to is a problem.  Putting together a list of commentaries on Luke I ran into a problem in that the list of commentaries to choose from were only a partial list of those that my passage guide has shown.  Why?  I don't know.  How to make a usable list is a skill that I have done but it is not intuitive.  I tried to train some one the other day and they just said that it had become very complex very soon.  It is something we need to think about.  I just hate to keep calling to solve easy problems.

Putting together a list of commentaries on Luke I ran into a problem in that the list of commentaries to choose from were only a partial list of those that my passage guide has shown.  Why?

Because the Passage Guide is doing something that you can't do in the library or collections window.  It is actively searching inside each commentary's index for references to the entered passage and displays those that have matches.  The best you can do when creating a collection is try to look for "Luke" in the title or subject fields, and those fields may or may not have it  (especially when there is more than one Bible book included in a commentary).

The Passage Guide is the best way to look for commentaries.  I always suggest people use it instead of creating collection rules for commentaries.  (The Explorer window does the same thing but isn't as customizable as the PG).  If you really need a collection of commentaries (to export bibliographic info, for example) then create it manually to match what the PG is showing (by dragging the names of the missing volumes from the library to the collection).

 I just hate to keep calling to solve easy problems.
