2. So I have two highlights with Style A selected

I create a note by selection and it is highlighted with Style B. But where was that selected as Default (maybe an annotation I deleted...)?
I create a note by reference and there is no evidence it exists except in the note file (presumably because the Default Indicator with Style B is "No Indicator")
So I change its note Colour and Indicator and click Use this style by Default
Then create a Note by Selection and it is highlighted with the Note colour (yuk!) & has Indicator from above setting.

The main point is I have one note file with 8 annotations and I don't know what style will be applied until I create an annotation or set it beforehand. Nor is it clear that the default will apply to both types of Notes.

The second point is that these concerns are not new!

If I Erase an Annotation with "No Indicator", there is no evidence it exists except in the Note file; which file would be a mystery to avid Notes users (Yes a Visual Cue will reveal its existence, but one has to select a note file in the tri-colour Icon).

And once you erase an annotation if you try to add a style back to it, this must be done from the note file itself. If you try to re-apply the style in the resource itself you will end up with a second annotation, rather than your original one now having a style re-applied.

For me the solution that would work is for each note file to have it's own set default style that is applied - this however does not mean limiting one style palette per note file...multiple pallets should be useable with a single note file....

....but there should be one style, for that note file, that is the default because when I use Add Note to "Note File", I am choosing to add it to a particular note file with a particular function in mind and I want consistency in terms of the style being used for that note file.

I have
just discovered (thru the Palette menu) that I have a note file called Highlighter Pens and it has NO highlights/annotations. After some investigation this is how it came to have zero annotations:-

Erase an annotation (Note by Selection with content) that is in my Notes Test file
the "highlight" is removed but the Note Indicator remains + the annotation remains in Notes Test
In the resource apply the Yellow Highlighter style to replicate the erased "highlight"
because the palette defaults to a "palette specific note file" I end up with the annotation in a new file called Highlighter Pens
Erase that "highlight" and I now have an empty Highlighter Pens file
I can safely restore the highlight from Notes Test by clicking on "Highlight with note color"

Clearly, this Highlighting/Note design is going to cause grief. It's definitely immature and I wouldn't want to be in the position of having to support users if this design is released.
