So… here's the deal. I had $800 burning a hole in my pocket and opted for this $459 beauty at Best Buy…Gateway SX2370-UB30P Desktop & 20" LED Monitor Package
Gateway - Desktop / AMD A-Series Processor / 4GB Memory / 1TB Hard Drive
Gateway - 20" LCD-LED Monitor Which, after tax, leaves me with about $307 for other new computer stuff if I want.PCI-Express SSD card perhaps?
Mo' memory?
DOC-SIS 3.0 cable modem maybe?
What would you do? Sale runs through Saturday if this catches anyone else's eye.
What would you do?
Another 4GB of RAM (or more)
I also noticed that the hard drive is 5400 RPM (http://us.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/model/PT.GCRP2.002). So I would recommend a 7200 RPM drive, or get the SSD.
I didn't see a HD speed rating other than variable which they note as being a "green" device.
I didn't either which is why I went to the Gateway website for the official word.
That's a sore spot I have with Best Buy. I was there looking at laptops a while back, and neither the listed specs nor the salespeople could tell me the HD speeds for the models they carried.
What does "Variable" usually refer to as relates to HD speed?
The drive can slow down when the data throughput required is low. This allows the power consumption to be lower, and it can get a "Green" label.

More memory for sure. Double the memory to 8 GB, would be my advice. If any money is left consider an SSD drive.

Memory — 4 Gb though you may need to purchase all new memory so that the chips are balanced. I would suggest you take a look at

Option: could custom install Logos 4 to SSD while leaving Windows on C: drive.

Curious about current cable modem ? Noticed DOC-SIS 2.0 upstream speed is 30 Mbps while DOC-SIS 3.0 upstream speed is 160 Mbps (also would ask internet provider if cable modem upgrade is worthwhile)
For memory, noticed computer has 4 slots, wonder if any are empty ?

Ouch...5400 RPM HD on a desktop computer! While I think for the price point that computer is pretty decent, I would have stayed away from that HD. If you want Logos 4 to perform optimally you'd need a faster HD for sure. As for the RAM, upgrading to 8gb is cheap. I would have done this with any computer I bought anyway.

I like your attitude.[Y]

The good thing about crucial is that they have a small applet which will scan your computer, tell you what the make & model is, and tell you what your upgrading options are. It is a good place to buy ram, but with the knowledge the applet scan gives, you can comparison shop elsewhere.
reimage (pc performance) evaluation of system performance…
Notice too, alabama24, snipping tool ships with computer. Loving every minute of it.
Curious about NovaBench benchmark www.novabench.com scores ? for comparison with many benchmarks posted in What's your benchmark? thread.
Novabench summary was posted on 19 Dec 2010 => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/24555/203693.aspx#203693 appears NovaBench Score of 541 is close to average, quite usable for Logos 4.
Yes, I'm getting very nice results with this machine. What amount of memory would you recommend for use with Logos 4? I currently have two HDDR3 1333 2GB modules installed. Would adding two 4GB for a total of 12GB be noticeably better than 8GB? I'm really not doing much more than Logos, MS Office and Google Chrome. Someone gave me a Kingston 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600U-9-10-80. Should I just grab another one of these and be happy with 8GB?

Personally have 8 GB on 64 bit Windows 7 laptop (with 640 MB allocated to RAM disk for temporary file use).
Appears 2 GB PC3-10600U for desktop is $ 9.49 (including shipping) while 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) is $ 32.99
