12 Days of Logos Review

To my surprise, I haven't found one forum dedicated to reviewing the resources offered for the '12 Days of Logos' offer this Christmas. Can we make this the 'official' spot for that?

We have some catching up to do:

Folks, one thing that I am not clear about, and can't accurately remember from last year - when they say, "A dozen deals for a dozen days. Check back every day for limited-time savings! Start building your library with amazing deals for 12 Days of Logos!" does that mean we can ONLY purchase the daily special on that ONE day, or can we purchase any of the deals anytime during the 12 Days of Logos specials? I thought we could last year up to the New Year, but maybe that was a special offered last year? Can someone please clarify? Would like to see what is offered in its totality before making any decision.

I believe you are correct about last year. I just clicked "add to cart" on yesterday's special, and received the sales price, so I assume the prices are available throughout the sale, at least.

I did close the window prior to completing the actual sale.

The last two years Logos allowed us to buy each of the 12 Days of Logos specials through the end of December. I do not see a promise of eligibility for the whole month but I did just go put both specials in my cart and it shows up at the special sale price. I am hoping they allow those sale prices through December once again.

Well, Logosfan, I sure hope you live somewhere in Europe. Otherwise you must REALLY be a Logos fan!

But the Unger's one is certainly affordable, and a decent discount. For those with teaching duties, the illustrations would be useful.

I guess I'm more 'hard-core' and excited about the closing Hastings dictionary this Friday. (Trying to stay positive!)

Ok, a response:

#1: NT Wright Collection

I bought this collection when it was on pre-pub, and find it invaluable. We had also bought the For Everyone NT commentary series in paper, but most of them are loaned out to friends so it was good to get them in Logos where I don't have to worry about who has the volume I need.

While I personally got the most from Wright's Christian Origins series, there are several other very informative books in this collection. The ones I used repeatedly are:

Surprised by Hope (on resurrection),
Simply Christian (update of C S Lewis's Mere Christianity),
Evil and the Justice of God (theodicy),
Scripture and the Authority of God (5th act hermeneutics),
Paul: Fresh Perspectives (intro to new perspective on Paul),
The Lord and His Prayer (on the Lord's Prayer).

It has also been on a Facebook Fan special for several months.

#2. New Unger's Bible Handbook

If you need a Bible handbook, this is no doubt a good one. But I didn't choose to buy it as I'm much more likely to look something up in one of my other resources (such as ISBE).

I thought along the same lines and wanted to skip this (I have bible handbooks in my first language on paper), but then curiosity got me and I looked at the extensive "look into" pages at Amazon, with a whole lot of information on Genesis. This changed my mind and I ordered it, since it seems to contain just the right level of detail to be able to answer a quick question from my kids; it references archeological finds and contemporary Ancient Mesopotamian culture details. Unfortunately the customer reviews (avg. 4 stars) didn't help that much, but the preview sold it to me.

So you can wait and purchase items. I am thankful for this, because there a few books I am interested in, such as today's, but I want to wait and see what else is on sale to!

I wish I could, but cannot. I am stil hopeful the IVP OT Dictionaries will be on sale. I have the NT ones and use them all of the time, would like to get some great ones for the Hebrew Bible. They complement ISBE and AYBD.
