Can anyone give me step by step instructions on creating this tool (Mark Barnes Bookshelf). It looks fantastic and would be a great help; but i am new to mac environment and cannot figure out how to create it. Thanks and God bless.
Jeff, first question I would ask is have you upgraded to Lion? This would tell you whether your Library folder is hidden or not.
If so, the first picture on this page illustrates the quickest way to gain access to ~Library
yes... I have Lion.
So... I can get to the library now, but how do I use the utility? Sorry for my ignorance.
Jeff, I'm unsure whether you want to recreate the tool Mark Barnes has provided for us or simply use the tool to display your bookshelf.
Assuming the latter:
1. Visit Mark Barnes website and log in using WordPress I.D. and password
2. After reading his directions, click the 'choose file' button and navigate to the right file*
*because the ~Library folder is hidden, open up Finder, click on Go (from the menu) and then unhide ~Library (option key) and click on it. This should allow you to then click on ~Application Support -> ~Logos4.
*Warning* Apple has done this because users have the ability to move and delete files within the Library folder that could potentially wreck many of their programs. Be careful and navigate within this folder and your own risk!
2.5. I've clicked and dragged my Logos4 folder to my Places area on the left side of the Finder window so I don't have to go through step 2 each time I want to access the folder. I recommend it. Now close Finder you just opened
3. Using the shortcut you just made after clicking 'choose' from Mark's website, I believe the rest of the path is Logos4 -> Data -> (Random File) -> LibraryCatalog -> Catalog.db
4. After clicking on catalog.db, click 'choose', then click 'upload' back on Mark Barnes' website.
If it feels like its taking a while, don't worry. I've had instances on slower connections where it took 45 minutes or more before it returned results.
Hope it works!
Paul, Thank you for your help. I followed the directions, but when I select the catalogue.db file and click on it, it asks me to open with what appellation. I wash;t sure what to do, so I copied it and put in on the desk top where I could find it. I think that will work this time, it is uploading now, but how should I do it if I ever need to update this utility with new resources?

After new resource purchases are updated in Logos library, looks like can sign in to Mark's web site to delete your library catalogue and start over.

That is delete the library catalog stored on Mark's site, not the one in your own Logos library!
KS4J might also mean the copy that was sent to the desktop, as it was a copy and is outdated once new resources are purchased.
The warning applies to files such as catalog.db. Please tread carefully!

Concur with being careful; suggest copying your catalog.db file when Logos 4 is closed.
Thankful for bibliographic comparison report on Mark's site that can highlight resources in many other libraries that are not in your library, which provides resources to consider.
