RANT!

Just reading "Biblical Counselling Keys on Islam which states that the religion began in "the seventh century CE" CE??? If you can't use AD in Logos 4 then something is seriously askew. Got that off my chest and that feels a little better. Thanks for letting me rant and have blesses Christmas in 2011 CE.

We've been through this before. Logos uses whatever the published version/author uses. Please don't waste your breath blaming Logos for something they are morally (and probably legally) required to do.

Yup, attributing to someone what they didn't actually write is an untruth in my book ... which might be related to experiencing the response of two authors' whose works were changed without their approval.

Unfortunately, most of the books I use and love are not in Logos as single books. The foundational book I believe is "A Theology of Christian Counseling" by Jay Adams. That gives you the basic why the Bible alone is authoritative for counseling - it really gives you a solid foundation for where we can stand as Christians in a world of compromised counselors. Next, I would read "Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands: People in Need of Change Helping People in Need of Change" by Paul Tripp. It gives a general idea on how Christians should counsel one another. Finally, if you are interested in the secular model vs. the Nouthetic model of counseling, I would read "The Christian Counselors Manual" by Jay Adams. That would give you a general run down of the Nouthetic counseling. Other authors/Counselors that you may want to look at that I enjoy and find edifying - Brad Bigney, Stewart Scott, and Nicholas Ellen. Let me know if you'd like more information

I definitely would prefer to read AD over CE. However, I really enjoy reading about Biblical archaeology and have just come to accept that many scholars don't use BC and AD anymore. So even though I don't like it - I don't let it bother me like it used to.

I also would prefer BC/AD, but people will write as they wish. I can understand Jewish authors using BCE/CE and tolerate it only being exercised when Christians do so. I won't get seriously outraged unless they start to date by the hegira.

As noted, Logos works to exactly reproduce the content of books (I think I remember reading before that even if a book has an error, Logos will reproduce the error) - they are not setting out to improve the content of existing books, but to faithfully represent those resources in a digital library which improves how we access and use the content of those books. Any issues with the content of a book should be sent to the author or editor/publisher.

One of my seminary profs once grumbled about changes a publisher made to one of his books, doing some things in his text that he specifically avoided - so sometimes it's not the author but the publisher.

Yes, I get that Logos cannot vet resource. I get that there are copyrights that protect the original text. I just think its ironic is all. I won't lose sleep over it.

I just think its ironic is all.

But then, this seems to be less of a "exposing the satanic heresy of Islam and crushing it to dust"-type of apologetic book, but rather one that follows a winsome approach, giving more or less "neutral", basic information and proposing an overall positive attitude towards muslim people. Judging from the bits I could read with the cool see-inside-feature on http://www.logos.com/product/9293/biblical-counseling-keys-on-islam (see copy below), that is.

I can imagine the author (or original fact section authors) as well as some readers of this resource sharing parts of the booklet with muslims - since Jesus and his role is the core issue between the two religions' differing views, it could unneccesarily be regarded as taking an aggressive stance towards muslims, if one was to insist on the BC/AD thing in this context. It seems that the usage of Christ for dating history is regarded as an imperialistic act by some non-Christians.

Personally, I use and prefer BC/AD (and emphatically so: actually there were times when you could recognize a German scientific text as coming from atheist GDR or from West Germany by just looking at this detail - many believe they took over...) but in the context of communicating with muslims or jews I'd tend to be sensitive of their perspective.

Be attuned to their very real needs and offer practical help. Encourage them physically, emotionally and spiritually. Muslims need friendship, love and care … and most of all, the Savior, just like everyone else.

• Be discerning about their dedication.

Recognize their level of adherence to Islam. How much do they practice the Muslim beliefs? Are they devout Muslims or merely cultural Muslims?

“The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” (Proverbs 18:15)

• Be understanding about their viewpoints and values.

Try to understand their perspective on life. What you value and respect may not be what your Muslim friend values and ...
