difference between layout and guide

I'm pretty novice at Logos 4 though I do love it for Bible study. Our pastor led a Bible study on a topic. I started out with the Bible word study, and added notes as I wished to that word study. I also had other books open on this layout--Bible translations, commentaries, etc. Each week I saved the layout so I could pick it up again the next week.

Now the study is over, and I want to save only the word study and notes. I would like to delete the layout and perhaps save the guide, but I'm having a hard time figuring that out.

Can anyone help?

There are a series of training videos put out by Forum MVP Mark Barnes that can help you unlock the customization power of Logos. You'll find those here: http://www.logos4training.com/

There is also a wealth of instruction in the Logos wiki: http://wiki.logos.com/Table_of_Contents__ Here you can find out how to modify, save, and delete layouts, and do pretty much whatever you'd like to do.

Why not check one of those two to see if there is an answer for your question and if you get confused or can't find it come back here and let us help you.

Logos is a great tool and learning all its features takes awhile. Don't apologize for simple questions, but also be willing to take the time to learn what's under the hood.

I started out with the Bible word study, and added notes as I wished to that word study.

If i understand you correctly, you added your notes to the Bible Word Study guide. If this is correct, then your notes are still stored on your computer. Notes added to one of the Guides are a little difficult to locate (please read this article [About Saved Exegetical Guides], even tho it is under Exegetical Guide it still pertains to any guide).

You also might see this wiki article (Saved Bible Word Study’s) to learn how to locate your BWS notes. You might want to copy your notes from the BWS guide to a regular note file in Logos4 so that you can easily find it. Or create a regular note file and hyperlink to each of your saved BWS guides, although it might be a little more secure if you copied the notes from BWS to a regular note file. Or another idea to keep track of your BWS guides is in this wiki article Keeping track of saved BWS’s.
