Why doesn't Logos 4.3 Service Release 7 (v4.30.0.1621) "Notes" behave as it is specified in Logos Wiki video tutorial?
what is the difference specifically?
Curious which wiki video tutorial ?
By the way, Logos 4.5 Beta has combined Notes and Highlighting so anticipating some future discrepancies with older video tutorials.
Also Logos 4.5 Beta on Mac has many Feature Parity improvements, including Notes positioning.
Keep Smiling [:)]
The video tutorial indicates that attaching a note to a any particular Bible version will then, automatically, be added to all other Bible resources, I have found that this is not the case.
Let me tackle this one first. In all likelihood, you are adding a note to a "selection" and not to a "reference." See upper right side of screenshot below:
When a Biblical verse, such as John 7:7 is typed into the "Notes Content", the video indicates that Logos will recognize as a Bible Reference and treat it like a hyperlink, I have found that this is not the case.
The problem here is one of feature parity between the Mac & PC versions of Logos. This is one of those features not implemented (yet) in the Mac version. As an FYI - the video's you watched are from a very talented volunteer and are not "official" videos - but they are very useful. As a Mac user, you need to be aware that some features may not work the same on Mac (but most do).

Concur current Logos 4.5 Beta 10 on Mac lacks automatic hyperlinking in Notes. In contrast, Logos 4.5 Beta 10 on Windows can edit Notes created on Mac to add automatic hyperlinking of a Biblical verse for use in Windows.
Workaround is using Personal Book(s) since links are usable. Personal Books also allow source docx files to be backed up separate from Logos 4.
I have verified that Bible References in Notes in Windows 7 using Logos Bible Software 4.5 Beta 10 (4.50.0.1654) does in fact recognize and converts Bible References to hyperlinks!
Thank you.
I have not been able to see the "test" note propagated to other Bible Versions as indicated in the Video. So, from what has been posted, these functions will be added in future Logos 4 versions. Is that correct?
Tom
As I posted earlier, did you add the note to "selection" or to "reference?"
Below is a screen shot from the ISV. I have NEVER used the ISV, yet, my note is there:
Notes created for a verse reference already appear in Bibles. Logos 4.5 Beta combined Notes and Highlighting, which allows a Highlighting style to be chosen for selected words:
For screenshot mouse is hovering over Blue Star to show pop-up text for a reference note. Notice Blue Star appears in other Bibles.
alabama24, I apologize for skipping your question, partly because I don't know what a "selection' is, but when adding the "test" note to my NASB, it is shown to be a "reference" as in your example snap shot.
Keep Smiling 4 Jesus, thank you for the info but the video indicates that if I created and attach a note to one Bible Version, that note should propagate to all other Bible Versions. I have not been able to confirm this behavior using Windows 7 Logos 4.5 beta.
Hi Tom
In general, when notes are not seen as propogating to other versions one of two things is happening:
Trying to check on the visual filter aspect - the screenshot below shows the King James Version and the visual filter control open
If I deselected the "Mark - Devotional" filter all references to it (the orange circles) would disappear.
The name of the Visual Filter is the same as the name I have given to my notes file.
Can you check whether the Notes File you are using appears in your Visual Filter list and whether it is ticked?
Graham
Graham Criddle,
I verified that the Visual Filter is checked for all of my notes that I have placed in the NASB, also I looked at the Visual Filter on my NIV but did not see any of my notes.
Keep Smiling 4 Jesus, thank you for the info but the video indicates that if I created and attach a note to one Bible Version, that note should propagate to all other Bible Versions. I have not been able to confirm this behavior using Windows 7 Logos 4.5 beta. Tom
Comparing Logos 4.5 Beta with Unofficial Tutorial # 10, noticed Logos 4.5 Beta has expanded color choices and added Note indicator options that are identical on Mac and PC. Likewise noticed Note foreground and background color can be chosen, which works on Mac and PC. Logos 4.5 Beta has hyperlink icon with drop down box for actual link (vis box shown in video).
Automatic hyperlink creation (and pop-up) works on Windows, but is missing on Mac. Workaround is manual adding hyperlinks on Mac (which are usable on PC).
Near 07:47 in Unofficial Tutorial # 10 video, heard about attaching note to specific text in one resource. For notes added by choosing selection, Logos 4.5 Beta adds ability to choose highlighting style vis using same color as Note box indicator. Also, video near 09:20 emphasizes using selected text for a note only appears in that one resource. In contrast, notes created using reference (or headword) appear in all resources that have that reference (or headword).
Keep Smiling 4 Jesus,
Thank you
I found this intriguing and did some checks.
I had a couple of Bibles open - the NIV and NRSV and created a new notes file. The act of creating the notes file did not make it appear in the visual filter drop-down list in either Bible.
I then created a note by selection from the NIV into the new notes file. This caused the new notes file to appear in the drop-down list in the NIV but not in the NRSV.
I then created a note by reference from the NIV into the new notes file. This caused the new notes file to appear in the drop-down list in the NRSV as well.
So, the symptoms you are describing are consistent with you creating notes in the NASB by selection as opposed to by reference.
I know you have checked that you are creating by reference so I don't understand what is happening here!

Tom - Just in case we are not communicating well enough, let me repost my screen shot with an annotation. When you add a note, you must select the "Reference" tab, and not the "Selection" tab.
alabama24,
Looks like that was my problem, thank you very much for you patience and persistance.
You're welcome. [:)]
