Reworking Base Packages

What I find frustrating about the base packages is that after Scholars, I feel like I waste a lot of money upgrading. For example, I'd love to move to gold. However, most of the commentaries that are picked up, I would never use. I know there are license issues, but I wish we could customize our own Gold, Platinum, and Portfolio packages. For example, you get X dollars of resources for the Y dollar price increase. That way I could pick up BDAG/HOLT and NICNT/OT instead of getting the UBC for example.

I don't know if you have considered it, but I wonder if the Christmas Credit offer might enable you to do pretty much what you want? You could purchase NICNT/OT and then use the credit to cherry pick additional resources which you fancy from the other base packages?

People have previously suggested customisable collections and library builders (bundled resources at a discount). It is a good idea, but I guess it is dependant upon the publishers agreeing to the necessary discounts in order to make the customisable package attractive and affordable. I understand some publishers are reluctant to discount.

This is what I decided to do. I went through the list or resources that I would use and see how much they would cost, and then compare that cost to the costs of the base packages to see what was the best deal for me. For me, I went with the original language package. I then purchased the books that I would/do use. This has save me $$$$$$, and I do not have a library full of resources that I will never use.

Ya I moved to Scholars to get what I wanted. I just wish you could get the $/page discount for going from one package to another and get to choose the books you wanted. For me, almost 2/3 of every upgrade is a waste. Basically I'd be paying the same amount for the few books I'd use plus getting some fluff.

Wiki Logos Resource Reviews has => UBS New Testament Handbook Series and => UBS Old Testament Handbook Series

Personally have UBS Handbooks as my top prioritized commentary since often read UBS insights about what is important in a passage along with translation information, including English comparisons, before reading other commentaries.

I used to think the same way....UNTIL I used them! They are great for helping me understand the original text. I also have them prioritized as one of my top commentaries.
