Downloading Logos Library Books to SD Card?
Hi,
By default when I download my logos books it puts them in main memory on an Asus Tablet. How do I tell the app to load onto the SD card? I don't see any options on the download.
Thanks in advance,
Dennis

There is no option, it will download to the internal storage (16 GB/32GB?) where the app is also installed.
NB there is some confusion about the terms USB Storage, System Storage, Internal Storage, SD Card that are used in Settings. AFAIK it's all on an internal SD card (typically 16 GB) because I can install an external SD card if necessary. To further confuse people the Logos app is "installed on Device" and I can move it to "SD card" as an option (others are "installed on Device (Default)" and cannot be moved to "SD card").
Here's my take:
- System Storage is a reserved part (partition) of Internal Storage = "installed on Device"
- "SD card" = USB Storage = user accessible part of Internal Storage + any external SD card(?)
- "main memory" is poor terminology but "phone memory" is another term!

Thanks Dave for the response...
It is well,

I believe some of this answer is incorrect.
Here's a replacement for Dave's table, followed by a few details.
First, an oversimplification: let's pretend that phones have only a small amount (512M) of internal storage plus ability to have a large external SD card... and tablets have a large amount (16G) of internal storage, plus an external SD card. In reality, phones are becoming more like tablets but there really are two distinct cases at least at present. I'm calling those cases "phone" and "tablet."
- "Main memory" or "phone memory" is all (for phones) or a reserved part (for tablets) of Internal storage, depending on the device.
- For tablets, the rest of the internal storage (typically 12GB) is a Data partition, seen as /sdcard but is NOT normally the "move to SD card" memory. It is the default location for data files on tablets. But "phone only" apps are not stored there, they are stored in the reserved part usually called "phone memory".
- "SD card" is an external card. For phones, it is /sdcard, for tablets it is another folder (see below for details.)
- For "system" memory, see below; it typically doesn't figure into this already confusing situation.
- On phones and most tablets, the "move to SD" function moves an app to the true external SD card. On some tablets, apparently the same function only moves the app to the internal "/sdcard" partition, which is not actually the external card.
AFAIK, Logos stores its books in a folder within the /sdcard partition. On a phone, this means the external sd card. On a tablet, this is the data partition. It is likely not possible to move Logos books to a tablet's external SD card at this time, unless perhaps the Logos app is aware of the app location and modifies its behavior in a smart way.
Some details:
- Both phones and tablets have "internal" read/write memory, which is
at the root ("/") of the folder structure. This can range from 512MB or
less up to 2GB so far. - Most tablets have a large built in (usually non-removable sd card) partition, /sdcard, which is the
default location for files, apps and data. - Most phones do not have large built-in partitions, so an add-on
external sd card mounts at /sdcard when inserted. - Tablets that have internal /sdcard can usually also have an additional external sd card, which mounts in different places depending on the device (some examples: Captivate, /sdcard/sd_external; SGS2, /sdcard/external_sd; Transformer, /Removable/Microsd.)
- Both phones and tablets have "system" semi-read-only memory ("firmware") which can't be overwritten except when upgrading the O/S.
- Some devices connect to sd cards via an internal USB bus which is why you might find "USB" in the name. Confusing since it has nothing to do with the usual USB connector!

Hmmm... that looks too complicated. Here I have summarized the situation separately for Android Phone and Android Tablet (based on the sometimes invalid assumption that tablets have large internal memory while phones do not). First, let's ignore "system memory". See the tech discussion above for details on that.
Phone
- "Main memory" or "phone memory" is all of Internal storage.
- "SD card" is an external card, ie /sdcard.
- The "move to SD" function moves an app to the true external SD card.
- Logos always stores its books in a folder within the /sdcard partition, ie the external sd card.
Tablet
- "Main memory" or "phone memory" is part of the Internal storage.
- The rest of the internal storage (typically 12GB) is a
Data partition, seen as /sdcard but is NOT normally the "move to SD
card" memory. It is the default location for data files. But
"phone only" apps are not stored there, they are stored in the reserved
part usually called "phone memory". - "SD card" is an external card, NOT /sdcard, but another folder depending on the tablet model. (eg: Captivate, /sdcard/sd_external; SGS2,
/sdcard/external_sd; Transformer, /Removable/Microsd.) - On most tablets, the "move to SD" function moves an app
to the true external SD card. On some tablets, apparently the same
function only moves the app to the internal "/sdcard" partition, which
is not actually the external card. - Logos stores its books in a folder within the /sdcard
partition, ie the data partition. It is likely not possible to move Logos
books to a tablet's external SD card at this time, unless perhaps the
Logos app is aware of the app location and modifies its behavior in a
smart way.

This lack of clarity is confusing a lot of people because many people buy tablets and expect the same behavior from Logos that they experienced on the phone: install logos on the phone and then move it to the SD card. Based on this a lot of people assume that purchasing a 8-16G internal memory tablet for applications with a 16 or 32 G SD card for Logos will be just fine for them only to find out later that they cannot actually move Logos to the external SD and they will have to squeeze all apps and Logos in the internal memory.

Pete,
My Samsung Galaxy phone corresponds to your Tablet description. It's "SD card" would have to be an external card as I can't move an app to "SD card" because of "Not enough memory" ==> I have no external SD card which is mounted as an (empty) folder /sdcard/external_sd.
If nothing else Logos is happy that I have an SD card because the "Data" storage (USB Storage) is mounted at /sdcard.
