I'm self-learning Greek using a number of Logos resources including: "Kairos: A Beginning Greek Grammar" and "Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics" In this second resource, the author mentions numerous statistics regarding the number of instances of each Greek Case in the New Testament. I am interested in using the morphology search in Logos to see these stats for myself as a way to better understand both the subject and the tools in Logos. While working on this, I am having trouble making the numbers match, which I realize is partly due to different morphology data sets.
My question for now has to do with how Logos reports the search results. As an example, I am searching all text of UBS4 using LogosGreekMorphology with a search string of @NN (Noun-Nominative). I would expect the result set to only contain nominative nouns and the count to show the number of hits in the entire NT. The Anaysis page indicates 7,426 results in 4,465 verses. When I Group by Case, I get six groups (nominative 7556 results, -- 185 results, accusative 70 results, vocative 23 results, dative 1 result, genitive 1 result). This raises two questions for me:
1. Why are the other cases showing up at all when my search string requested only nominative noun (as I understand it)?
2. Why does the header of the analysis window indicate 7,426 results (of what?) and the nominative group indicates 7556 results)?
BTW, Wallace reports 7794 nominative nouns in the Greek NT.
I would have liked to show a screenshot, but my screen capture tool won't cooperate tonight. Sorry.
