Suggestion: Virtual collections column in Library

Personally wish for collection virtual column in Logos 4 library (like My Tags) so could see what resources are in various collections plus look at "--" resource list, then consider which collection(s) to modify.

Agreed, however my solution was to convert all my collections into mytags. I did this by copying the collection argument into the library and tagging those and then reviewing any books added/deleted and making manual adjustments. After this I sorted the library by mytag and reviewed those that were not tagged and did so. I used a documented tagging system to maintain consistency. If I want a collection as well as the mytag I just use the argument "mytag:apologetics" for example as the collection argument.

This worked for me because 90% of my library was in collections and the arguments did not require a lot of added or deleted resources; I do not have hundreds of different collections, only about 50; and I had some time to spend getting to know my resources better through the process.

When ever I add a new resource I simply sort my library by mytag and then tag the resources accordingly.

I copied John earlier and it's the only smart thing I've done so far in L4. Really solves a lot of frustrations.

But a Collections column does seem odd to be missing, the formula approach being a trumpeted feature of L4.

Observation: your library now has 2 collections for Apologetics:

Apologetics (with rule mytag:apologetics)

mytag:apologetics

One option is using dynamic rule for collection; then look at user tags for resources in collection to verify every resource is appropriately tagged.

I had a dynamic rule but have converted to tags. I think collections look better in the Cited By, so I just created those that I wanted to keep as collections. I have abandoned dynamic rules because I no longer need them. I used the apologetic example for those that still want collections, also, I could have called it favorite apologetics and used mytag:apologetics with a rating. I was showing how versatile the library becomes when it is tagged.

Where did you find this documented tagging system? One of my challenges with mytags is that I always have to remember how exactly they were called and spelled. It would be nice if Logos had a dropdown list of all the mytags that I have used.

Hi Armin,

I used one that I created that is pretty straight forward, but allows me to get to the information I want. if you open the library in a pane and then click on the mytag column, you will have a list of all your tags with spelling. I simply use that or an excel spreadsheet that is in my favorites. Does this help?

Forum thread has a MyTag discussion => My Tags that includes another Logos user's example list of tags in a document.
