Don't know if there's any archaeomusicologists among the many forum members.

But the AYB Nahum volume is written by Duane Christensen who did quite a bit of work on the subject. The Logos write up only hints at the emphasis on prosody in the Nahum volume. That would be an understatement.

I must confess I'd never heard of the word! And as I read the chapter on Nahum, my jaw kept dropping with each page turn ('You can not be serious!').

But the book is quite interesting; somewhat of a detective story. In the late 1800s a scholar found an acrostic in the 1st chapter of Nahum. The problem however was that only 2/3's of the alphabet could be found. Given a room full of hebrew scholars, you know what happened next.

The missing letters spawned a whole raft of attempts to try to find all 22 letters. But in the search, the whole theory of early poetics came into play and that is the most interesting part. I have the various Logos resources on hebrew poetics, spelling, etc but this is even more curious.

I also use my mathematical pattern analyses and then match up the various hebrew writing segments to create a time-flow. I knew Nahum matched early Isaiah, Micah, and the poetry in the second section of Psalms. And so apparently I'm on the right tract!

What in the world in archaeomusicology? And what does that graphic supposed to represent? This sounds all very interesting, but I am at a loss.

Fascinating. I have this Nahum volume but hadn't cracked it open to actually read it. I have too many commentaries to do that with, so unless I get a specific recommendation from someone about one of them, I generally use them only as they show up in Passage Guides when I'm studying a specific passage. Can't say I have been studying Nahum recently, nor ever. Read it through once and learned basic details about its authorship and provenance and such for OT Survey class years ago and I think that's about as close as I've ever come to "studying" it. Looks like it's time to rectify that.
