Rank your top 3 Commentaries and Dictionaries under $250 for non-OL Logos user

I am looking to add to my library, but am on a budget.

Can you help by ranking your top 3 commentaries and dictionaries (separate set of ranking for each)

I am not going to using OL anytime soon, so English only or Heb/Grk - English interlinear is fine

The Bible Knowledge Commentary is also a good one which is standard in most Logos packages.

You could add the Expositor's Bible Commentary and Unger's for under $200.

1. What base package do you own?

2. Are you looking to spend $250 in total, or $250 for commentaries, $250 for dictionaries; or $250 for each commentary/dictionary, i.e. $1,500 total

3. How are you going to use the resources- preaching, teaching, devotional, etc

4. Any information about your Biblical tradition that might be helpful?

Commentaries:

1. Tyndale Commentaries - amazing quality for the price.

2. Bible Speaks Today New Testament

3. New Bible Commentary

4. The Preacher's Commentary - not a critical commentary, but with writers like Maxie Dunnam, Loyd Ogilvie, Walter Kaiser, David Hubbard, David McKenna, etc., it is more helpful than you think. Cheap and underrated.

Dictionaries:

1. Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary is sold for $20 over the $250, but if you call it can often be bought for a bit less.

2. IVP Dictionaries - excellent quality

3. New Bible Dictionary

Apologies: while my favorite commentary series does not need original language mastery, the price does fit in budget.

Wiki Logos Resource Reviews has => UBS New Testament Handbook Series and => UBS Old Testament Handbook Series

Personally have UBS Handbooks as my top prioritized commentary since often read UBS insights about what is important in a passage along with translation information, including English comparisons, before reading other commentaries.

For purchasing UBS handbooks, upgrading to Scholar's Gold is a better deal.

Thankful for Tyndale Commentaries (49 vols.) purchase (from facebook sale in Apr 2011) since UBS Handbook series is missing several Old Testament volumes.

Likewise Thankful for The Essential IVP Reference Collection Version 3 that added many worthwhile dictionaries (encyclopedias) to my library.
