Hello Friends,

My church, a Southern Baptist Church in the Northern Kentucky area, recently had our Senior Pastor and Youth Minister unexpectedly resign.  We're in preliminary stages of a pastor search, and am curious if anyone knows of locations I could post the opportunity to, that could target pastors that would affirm the Southern Baptist Faith and Message?

Feel free to post here, or e-mail me at DerekLBrowning[at]gmail.com

Thanks,

Derek

Derek, my own heritage often does it through their bible colleges.  we don't have denominational headquarters.  perhaps the S. Baptists do, and if you contacted them, they might have a clearing house/ministry list.  there are also ministry lists that are available to "all" christian churches, but you could stipulate that your church has certain requirements in the process.  you might google "ministry listings" to see if any of those could be resources for you.

Glad you are a Logos user.  Many blessings and wisdom on your search.

    Derek,

I attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (online), which is also in Northern Kentucky. They update and post a pastor openings document fairly frequently, at least weekly it seems. I'm not sure how they find out about the openings, but you can probably call and ask. www.sbts.edu .

Contact your local Association Director of Missions. They usually maintain a file of resumes. Also the State Convention office may provide some assistance here.

The SBC has a place on its website, as well as Southwestern and Southern and New Orleans seminaries. Churchstaffing is used by a number of SBC pastors I know. There are also a number of search firms (Vanderbloeman and Ministersearch) that can help whittle through the resumes and give you the top candidates that would be a possible match.

Having been in the search process of trying to find a new place of service, I can tell you that once word starts getting out you can anticipate potentially several hundred resumes. Blessings for your search!

I am a SBTS graduate and used the ministry referral office at SBTS.  They sent out my resume to churches all over the United States.  This resulted in my current ministry position.  I believe churches have two options in working with SBTS' ministry referral office.  The first option is that the church receives resumes from candidates that match the church's criteria.  These resumes are directly sent by the ministry referral office.  In this option, the ministry referral office acts like a middle man, connecting churches with potential candidates.  The positive side of this method is that a church will receive many resumes.  The downside is that not all potential candidates will be interested in the church, because their resume is sent without knowing anything about the respective church.  The second option is that you post your position on the ministry openings list.  You may not get as many resumes with this option, but it has the advantage of 100% interest on those resumes you do receive.  I assume you can opt for both options.  You can contact SBTS' ministry referral office at ministryresources@sbts.edu.

I am sure the other Southern Baptist seminaries have similar resources.  You can contact them at:

It's hard for me to see your problem. In my N.C. mountain town of 800, we have 500 Baptist preachers. [:P] Give or take a hundred.
