i'm new to Logos 4 and new to MacBooPro. Is there a way to find previous home pages/newsletters? There was a book for the day yesterday that I started to read and I guess I didn't figure out how to save it and it's gone. If I could remember the title (should have written it down) I would go to Amazon and see if there was a hard print copy. I really want to finish reading it. Thanks, Carol

Hi Carol

The "Book of the Day" should be a book which you already own in Logos so you shouldn't need to purchase another copy.

If Layouts don't show it (all depends on when layouts were saved) you could try using the History Tool - go into Tools and click on History and it should show you things you have read or done recently.

Hope one of these approaches give you what you want.

Hi Carol,

If you started reading it then the book is in your Logos library...no need to go to Amazon and re-purchase a print copy. If you remember what it was about you can search by topic. You can continue reading. You can even print some chapters at a time to read. To search open your library and type in the search either for example it's a book about faith here are some ways to search.

Also if you have any type of mobile device (iPad, iPhone/iTouch, Kindle Fire, NOOK, or Android Tablet) you can read your books offline on them. If you want to sit and read something on like a Kindle Fire is ideal there is a Logos app (it's basic right now you can read Logos books, notes and highlighting will be added at a later date). I am only suggesting this as an option because you have tons of books. If you have say 10-20 books you want to read from Logos you want to read all the way through, to purchase them in hard print the cost would pay for a device like the Kindle Fire. It's something you may want to consider so you don't repurchase a lot of books. I have an iPad and use it to read a lot of my Logos and Vyrso (that's Logos other book site, the books integrate in Logos but it's the type of books you would find at a local Christian bookstore).

Thanks so much for all the help. That's wonderful news. I don't have a kindle but I'm thinking of downloading the free online kindle that's available from Amazon. My daughter uses it. Since this is a laptop I could take it with me if I wanted to take my library of books with me. LOL I don't have anything other than this and a simple cell phone that only does what I need it to (call in case of emergency LOL). HEY! I'm still back with photograph records. BTW, does anyone know about printer sharing? I've posted this question to the Mac group but have not gotten a reply (I need to move it from they intro forum to the help forum). Right now I am not able to print from my laptop. I have a Cannon hooked up to my PC desktop in another room which is hooked to a modem and wireless router. My son was able to set it up for sharing and got his computer to recognize it. But my mac ask for info I don't know. It finds the printer but then wants location (what is that), kind of printer (generic something or other) and maybe something about drivers? If this isn't going to work I'll have to invest in a wireless printer. My sons computer is a PC.Thanks, Carol

The Mac 101 and Switch 101 pages have links for connecting devices, including printers. A printer shared on a PC desktop is a network printer to the Mac. One option is installing Apple software on PC (e.g. Safari, iTunes) that includes Apple's Bonjour.

I know this is off topic but there are two solutions to what you want to do both require some form of home net work.

1. Print through the PC i.e. Mac --- PC --- Printer.

2. Print directly to the printer using a net work printer.

If you 'google' the terms or information that you do not know you are likely to find out how to obtain it.

If you type your request into YouTube there is likely to be a video explaining how to do it.

I have come to the conclusion my HP (not cannon like I wrote) photosmart is NOT compatible with mac and there are no software/drivers to download. OH WELL. Print function keeps pausing. And I don't see where to delete the printer we added. Off to find the help I was sent to start learning about logos 4. More important than the printer which we will figure out eventually. going to ask a friend on Sunday who is computer lit and owns a mac.

There were some printers which were made 'Windows Only' in an attempt to cut costs to the bone. However even these should be usable by setting up a printer share. What is the model number of the printer?

Carol - Did you try hooking the printer up directly to the printer via cable? If you haven't, you should do so to see if the mac recognizes it.

Would you believe you guys have been more helpful than the mac forum? my laptop recognizes the printer name and says its ready (it's under a generic plc driver which is the only thing I could come up with). However, when I tell it to print something, it will start and then pause. I click on resume and it pauses again. Any suggestions as to why? I've read about adobe pdf problems but I have nothing else running a the time. THANKS. Would be nice if we could make this work. If we don't figure it out I will take this back there and connect the cable to it to see. There were several things in hold due to pause and I deleted them all. I'm just trying to get it working first.

Would suggest connecting cable to see if can print, which would install and verify print drivers in Mac OS X.

Then have option to connect cable back to PC. On Mac, could add printer (click "+" in Print & Fax system preferences) to see if can find printer shared by PC, then choose printer driver (to same one when printer was connected to Mac using a cable).

It finds the printer by the name we gave it on my pc and tells me it's ready. Forget the drivers as it only lists a generic plc (it was listing two generic printers but now it only lists one) and I have chose that was I had to chose something and there is nothing else. However, when I try to print it starts to do something but then pauses before it ever gets back there. I click resume, it starts again and then immediately pauses. Suggestions as to why?

Wonder about printer driver ? Apple has HP drivers available => http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907

Wonder about attaching printer to Mac using cable so Mac can detect printer model and configure appropriate print driver, then print something while cable is attached. Then disconnect cable from Mac, reconnect to PC. Followed by changing Mac to use PC network printer name with same print driver that worked with cable attached.

I looked at most of that yesterday if not all and could not find a driver for my printer. Several folks in various places said that it wasn't compatible with Mac. I'm running into more folks who disagree with that statement including my husband who says my printer is generic.

any thoughts as to why it keeps pausing? That's my real problem right now. It's showing the printer and telling me it's ready but when I try to do a test print of something it will start and then pause before ever reaching the printer. I hit resume and it starts and then pauses again.

Various printers use different control languages for formatting print to output on device. If printer does not recognize generic driver commands, nothing prints. Also, Windows firewall and virus scanning can interact with shared network printing.

On the PC, one option is installing Apple's Bonjour => http://www.apple.com/support/bonjour/ that is used by Apple for network printer discovery and setup, including appropriate print driver. On PC can use Bonjour Printer Wizard => http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999 After Bonjour is configured on PC, then adding a printer on Mac should show Bonjour device (including printer model).

I downloaded bonjour to my pc which is where the printer is. It did NOT work. I tried downloading to my mac and it tells me It won't run in dos therefore its locked. any other suggestions?I'm giving this up till I see my friend Lou who is very computer literate and now owns a mac. He's very busy which is why I haven't called him but will see him either tonight at prayer or Sunday at church. Thanks, any other suggestions I'll try them. What do you know about ghostwriter? I found info but it's available from many sources all different and of which I don't really understand what's what. I downloaded one and it needed win zip to open it but I didn't want to pay for it so I tried a free version and after all the work it said I wasn't configured to use it or something. There's more to it than that but I need to get back to work. Really! There must be a SIMPLER way? LOL

Wonder about connecting Mac to the printer using USB cable ? Verify Mac can print using cable.

Some printers have their own wireless or wired network connection option, which can be easier to setup for use by Mac and PC.

By the way, what is the printer model ?

I downloaded bonjour to my pc which is where the printer is. It did NOT work.

Curious what did not work ? please elaborate a bit.

I have had a similar problem which was solved by resetting the printing system: see the link to this document:

Afterwards my printer was recognized by my Mac when using the printer installation disc and is working fine since then. Before it simply refused to 'see' the wireless printer in my network although is was seen without any problems by the PC's at home.

I click on the link and it comes up on a blank page but no info. I click on the link in the new page and nothing happens. My mac is recognizing the printer and telling me it's ready. But then it pauses repeatedly and won't go any further.

I have an HP photosmart C2400. My son can print through the network (it's not a wireless printer). The mac is seeing the printer but keeps pausing like I said. And the only driver it shows is a generic plc. It lists other printers but my photosmart is not one of them. THANKS every one. Blessings on all. Need to pray for a word of knowledge as to what the problem is. :-) Anyone care to join me in that?

Anyway, because your printer is recognizing your printer the problem must be something else...

Perhaps KS4J can tell if it is worth a try to start all over again with resetting the printing system on your mac.. I am not that experienced.

Oh, and I forgot something: sometimes it helps when you restart your mac even though it is rarely needed.

I have had those pause-hangings as well, but after a restart of my mac it works fine again.

Not the problem. We weren't sure it was set up right in the first place but then it showed my printer name so I decided to try and print something. I heard the printer in the back go on but it kicked out pages and pages of blank paper followed by a few pages of garbely goop. After that it would only pause. So it's never worked right (only had this for over a week). We started working on it probably on Monday and this is Friday. So either it's not set up right (except it sees my printer and tells me it's ready) or there is something else going on or missing. Thanks

I don't know how to reset it or to even delete the one it's showing. In my PC I could go to add and remove programs or uninstall. Still lots to learn about a Mac. I have Mac for dummies coming from Amazon. Maybe it will tell me something. LOL If not, I would be surprised if Lou can't come up with a solution.

HP Photosmart C2400 is not listed for OS X Lion. HP PSC 2400 Photosmart is listed for print only (other functions are not usable).

Garbely goop can be a print driver formatting issue.

Mac OS X includes a Reset Printing System troubleshooting function that you might want to use after you try all other printing troubleshooting steps for Mac OS X 10.6 or later, or Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier.

Products Affected

Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS Printing/Fax (any version), OS X Lion

What does Reset Printing System do?

Deletes all queues and jobs.
Resets all printer settings to their default by deleting configuration files.
Performs a permissions check on the /tmp directory.

Any printers, scanners, or fax modems that previously appeared in System Preferences will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.

Resetting the printing system in OS X Lion

To use the Reset Printing System function in Lion, follow these steps:

Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Scan from the View menu.
Hold down the Option key while clicking the "-" (Remove printer) button. If no printers are currently added, hold down the Control key while clicking in the box that appears above the "+" (Add printer) button, then choose Reset printing system… from the contextual menu.

Haven't been back here in several days due to being busy. I've tried everything suggested and nothing has worked. We finally took my lap top back to the printer and connected the cable to it. It immediately asked to look for drivers and downloaded all the drivers for the HP printer. We chose the right one and printed something out to the printer while connected with the cable. Worked fine. Went back to try it wireless and it either tells me it's not connected or it goes back to pausing which is my main problem. Talked to my friend Lou today who I was sure would have a solution and he had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE! So I'm back to praying for a word of knowledge. If worse comes to worse it's easy enough to take this back there, plug in the cable and print. Would still love to do it the other way.

Back to Logos which is what this forum is for. I went ahead and ordered the Camp 1 DVD and book. After mastering it I might order camp 2. I'm loving just the home page at this point and learning a lot. Really enjoy reading about the hymns and hymn writers. Thanks everyone and BLESSINGS on all.

Well I spoke a little to soon. I wanted to print out some info for my brother. So my son and I went back and he plugged in the printer cable to my laptop. Tried to print and it gave me several pages of one liners and then told me it failed and was no longer able to communicate or connect with the printer. Weird stuff it printed out as well. My son looked at it and said he thought it was something to do with the driver Lou suggested I contact HP. Maybe I should do that. FUNNY! It worked fine yesterday. :-(

I forgot to come back here and answer. Tried printing connected from the cable again and it wouldn't work (it worked Saturday). So I went out while connected to the printer with my pc on and found the current drivers and software for my HP and installed it on my laptop. So know if I connect via the cable and make sure the right printer is selected I can print. But when I go back to try it through the network (going back to the printer name we gave it) it fails or pauses. I've decided not to worry about it unless something clicks one day. I will just connect directly through the cable and print. Thanks everyone. BTW, I chose the wrong printer last week (2400 instead of 4200) and it's showing on my lap top even thought it's not in use. Anyone know HOW I can delete this? It's not actually and install just one of the drivers I picked by mistake and now it shows up in the list of printers along with a picture in printers and faxes under general even though it's not in use. I see NO way to delete it. Oh well! :-)
