Im kinda new to the community pricing and this is the first couple of weeks that nothing has made it into pre-pub.This seems abnormal to me.
There have been months and months before when nothing much moved on the CP pages. It goes through seasons of more and less activity. Also depends on what they've been adding into the CP pipeline lately (many of those collections of outdated commentaries are garnering yawns from the usual CP addicts), and how much overload we've all had recently. I figure the Christmas sale probably had people focusing on spending money on live products, not thinking about the CP pages much.
I think Logos must have slowed down it's team about T-Giving; I hardly saw anything move during that period. Just as well--helped me conserve cash.
It's not the Logos team slowing down that affects how long it takes lingering CP titles to move into pre-pub; it's how many bidders there are. There are still 87 products in CP waiting to reach 100%, some of them closer than others. I remember back in the old days (not so long ago) there might only be 4-8 titles in CP at a time, so this is actually a luxury!
Speaking for myself, I purchased a few items from the Christmas sales, so it really suits me if not too much from the CP or Pre-Pub lines makes it to Production right now.
Another point: You will get a better price from CP if it builds over time and passes the line at some smaller (e.g. $20) point, than if there is too much interest and it rushes over the line at say $50!
About a year or so back, it was common for there to be less than 10 items, and nothing moving for months on end. The other extreme is if theres too much at once and you have to let some great deals pass by.
If you are lukewarm on some title in CP, place the smallest possible bid, and you at least get an email in the final week. You can then step up to the asking price, or let it slide past. In a few cases, the bottom bid might still win the item at what is a good price.
Sadly, I think a lot of god stuff escapes out of CP without many people understanding what greats deals some of the titles are!

I agree entirely. I'm also grateful for the CP slow down. Most of the CP offerings fall into the category of books that would be nice to have one day, but that I'm not in a hurry to acquire. My bidding strategy is to bid below the current peak in a effort to slow down the production rate and to lower the eventual price.
That is a great strategy, and if many read and adopted it, we'd all get a lot of resources on the cheap...

Rosie,
Are you saying that these commentaries are not worth it?
