The image before highlight failed to add the necessary space. Instead the highlight covers the preceding text.
I couldn't reproduce with a supplied image (the asterisk). Does it work with that image in v4.3?
The image is actually the Trinity symbol from the Lutheran Study Bible.
I am able to reproduce the issue and will report it to Development.

Thanks. I've made a case for this. For now, I've found if you also highlight the space following the last word of the previous verse along with the verse number (and whatever part of the verse following the number that you like) the image does not overlap the text. Hope that helps you a little.
