Opinions, please.
Targums Studies Collection (4 vols.)
I can only speak to my own perspective. When I look at the NT (as well as the OT), I try to get expertise on materials that 'float' nearby and potentially speak to either the direct text, or what listeners at the time might have to interpret with. For the NT, that includes the apocrypha, LXX wording, pseudepigrapha, sectarian DSS, targums, and rabbinical writings (mishnah, talmud, etc). ALL have issues of timing however.
The targums are probably the poorest datable 'floaters'. But on the other hand, they often run oppsite rabbinical sources, and quite a number of NT concepts, especially in the gospels and Paul, also show up in the targums, even helping understanding the NT text.
The collection has the better writers. McNamara honcho'd the Aramaic Bible (http://www.litpress.org/Series.aspx?ID=17) and Chilton has similarly been heavily involved (he did Targum Jonathan Isaiah). I'm guessing you're already familiar with Davies and Maher.
Absent buying Aramaic Bible (which I did ), the collection has the key resources. I deleted it while planning no more L4 resources, but just re-added it, after you noted the ship date!
Thanks.
