Repeating a Search

Hi, I'm a new Logos user (Logos4) and love it so far! I have used several other Bible programs, and based on them, I have a couple of questions that I am unable to work out with Logos. Hoping someone can explain.

Q1. When I first launch Logos4 I enter in a search, say 'Temple", and hit the Go button. The results are well laid out. Now, if I want to do a secondary search on a word or Scripture reference in one of the results, I would like to be able to somehow do that search and have the same results layout. But I can't find a way to do it. Entering a search at the top of the page is different than the search on the Home and click "Go".

How do I repeat the search on a new word or passage and get the same layout as I do on the initial search?

Q2. I like to use my Bible software to take notes on a sermon during the Church service or Bible Study. What is the best way to do this. Previous software enabled me to simply type free notes, and whenever I typed a scripture reference it automatically became a link which I could instantly use to go to that reference. Is this possible in Logos4?

To get that default layout, hit the home page button on the upper left hand corner. The home page will come back up with the search box. The home page search box is the only way to get this layout.

Create a new note file, click "add note" and begin typing. Logos will recognize when you type a scripture reference and a CTRL click on it will open your preferred Bible. Hovering over it will bring up a popup with the verse.

Provided you're using Windows, that is. Since you're asking, I'm guessing you may be on Mac. We're still waiting and hoping...

Good point fgh.

Geoff, there are some differences between the Windows and Mac versions (mostly Mac lacking some features) so while for the most part answers will be the same across platforms if you post in the L4 Windows or L4 Mac forum you can get better answers related specifically to your platform.

While I'm at it I recommend you check out the wiki, especially http://wiki.logos.com/Getting_Started_with_Logos to help you learn your way around.

Thanks guys. Yes I'm on a Mac. I guess I'll have to wait for that feature.

Regarding the search, the results layout for the home "Go" search seems so much better than the usual search, that I am surprised it isn't available as a search option on every keyword on a page.

Do the developers monitor these forums? Perhaps they'll consider?

Yes Developers do monitor the forum but typically the particular forums relating to the product they work on. So, a post in the General forum is less likely to be read by a Mac developer than a post in the L4 Mac forum for an. There are some QA staff that also troll the forums and usually they cull suggestions like this and forward them on for consideration but it's easy for them to miss stuff, particularly if the post volume is high.

I believe the current logic is that if you have a layout open (and are searching from the command bar or a search tab) then it is presumed that you want to add to the current layout, rather than close all and generate a new layout. I can image angry user posts about accidentally losing a layout in the middle of a study to a feature like this so if implemented it would have to be hard to accidentally do.

If you want to make more noise about a feature request you can create an item on the Uservoice forum ( http://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-4) which allows users to vote on features they'd like. A lot of times we'll see the author of a uservoice item start a new thread on this forum inviting others to view their idea and vote for it.

Yes Developers do monitor the forum but typically the particular forums relating to the product they work on. So, a post in the General forum is less likely to be read by a Mac developer than a post in the L4 Mac forum

For those participating in public Beta testing, Logos has Beta forum discussions that seems to include more development replies. Wiki has => Logos 4 Beta Program with information and risks.

Wiki has Mac and PC User Interface Differences => Feature Parity section, which has several links to Logos User Voice suggestions, including => Improve Logos 4 Mac Feature Parity with PC with status: "Started" This is an ongoing effort, and while we don’t have an exact date for when it will be completed, each major release will increase the parity between Mac and Windows.
