Frustrating Notes Experience

I'm a new Logos user (whatever the latest production release is as of today--not beta) on the Mac and I wanted to share my notes experience over the past two days.

I know Notes is getting revamped in 4.5, so if it will fix these issues, then I will simply be patient.

I started a note for a passage on Monday and started to type out an outline using bullet points. I was just using the default font and size then (some Logos font--I cannot recall the font name right now). Everything was working fine. I had to stop working so I closed the laptop lid and went about my business.

I came back to work on the outline again Tuesday night and suddenly Logos decided to change the "default" font on me. I never closed the program. I had closed the reopened the note itself, but Logos had remained running in the background the whole time. Any time I would hit Enter to start a new bullet point, it would be of a different size and font. I would get a few bullet points in there, hit Command+A to select the whole note and then change it back to the Logos font and size I wanted. Sure enough, the very next time I hit enter from anywhere in the middle of the note, it would change the font on the new line back to something completely different (I cannot recall the new font's name either, but it's one I have never used on my system).

I worked through that annoyance and finished the work for the night and clicked out of the note. I was scrolling through the passage in another tab when the Notes tab flashed. When I looked over, all the work I had done that night disappeared. I believe Logos had been indexing in the background while I was working on the note and had just finished while I working in the other tab. Then as I tried to mess with Undo and Redo in the Note, Logos crashed.

I know a ton of people have had many problems with notes. I've been an avid reader of the forums since I got Logos, but I think I'm going to have to work in Microsoft Word until things are fixed. That is not something I'm keen on doing, because I like having all of the texts, commentaries and other resources available within the same program while I'm typing up my notes. Having to use an external program defeats some of the purpose of even having Bible Study software, as I could cobble something together from disparate sources if I wanted to put the effort into it. I'm hoping Logos can save me from this effort...that's why I bought it.

Thanks,

Bill

Wonder how notes appear after restarting Mac and launching Logos 4 Mac ?

Apologies: I do not know if sleep affects Highlighting and Notes in progress in Logos 4.5 Beta, something to test.

Personally have a screen hot corner so can move mouse into corner to put display to sleep.

    Keep Smiling [:)]

    William,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with notes.

Bob explained that part of the problem with the implementation was one of expectation.

When the facility was first asked for it was designed as providing for a 'Note' i.e. a short reminder of perhaps a concept. e.g. Jesus - this chap had two dads.

Serious students of the Bible came along with another - more academic expectation of the word Note - i.e a long and complex essay on a particular point. These users wanted bullets, charts, graphs etc to facilitate their expectations. Many of these concepts were 'shoehorned' into the original design but as you experienced they made it less than optimal in use.

I know a lot of work is going into Notes but I still do not use them. Perhaps as more satisfactory, for you, workflow would be to use personal books?
