transfering references and citations

Hi:

I wonder if there is a way to have the references and citations listed to the bottom fo the document I am working on. I want this for several reasons. First, if I reference a sentence I get the full info at the bottom of the page. It doesn't take many of these to take up half a page. Second, I don't have the flexability to move the subject matter around enough to keep a though together when a good section of the page is filled with references and citations.

I am sorry Nick, it is not immediately clear to me what software you are describing. Are you talking about a document in Logos? Perhaps a handout? Or are you talking about a Microsoft Word Document?

I am going to assume you are talking about handouts for just a moment.....

As you have no doubt noticed, if you hover over an item in the handout panel an EDIT link appears...

If you click that link you'll see your item open up with the reference/citation at the bottom.

Since there is no way to make that reference appear at the bottom of the entire page, and since it only appears at the bottom of the item you are working on, I propose one of two fixes....

Copy all of your citation material to either

1) the very last item in your handout in the citation section

2) a separate item that you keep at the bottom.

It is a workaround, I admit but Bob has said that the handouts feature is being rewritten.

Sorry, this is me first time doing this. I have bible study classes on wed. night and there are questions for us to answer. So, I answer them adn then go to the Logos software for infromation and a better understanding of the questions and such. So I transfer them to M.S. Word (I then transfer it to Word Perfect because I like this platform better).

So between the questions, my answers and then the infromation which is sometimes lengthy, it gets harder and harder to keep the flow and ideas together.

Then going back to your original question:

It appears to me that it's a problem with the footnotes that are automatically copied in from Logos to Word and are then transferred to WP. Perhaps Richard DeRuiter can help you since he is/was a WP user but I suspect there is a setting in word perfect that will locate the footnotes or endnotes in their proper place.

Or perhaps I'm still misunderstanding you?I think my next question is: how are you getting something out of Logos → MS Word → WP?

Is it copy and paste? Print/export?

I can't get anything to go straight from Logos to Word Perfect. I copy something, then go to WP and then hit shift insert or go to the tab to paste and nothing happens.

Odd, I had the same experience with OpenOffice! I finally switched to MS Office which is not a possibility for everyone. Hmm. Can you try pasting into WP using some sort of "Paste as text" feature that would strip off the extra formatting and only paste plain text? That did work for me using OpenOffice.

Hi Nick. With WordPerfect, you will need to paste unformatted for most things to work. Sometimes you can post as RTF, pasting as unicode gives unreliable results. (This is because WP is stuck with an old way of doing things and Corel refuses to update WP to current standards. ) I put a short-cut to the paste options on my WP toolbar, and remapped the WP keyboard to make ALT-C = "Paste Unformatted."

As far as dealing with footnotes goes, WP ships with a macro that converts endnotes to footnotes, and another that converts footnotes to endnotes. If you installed WP with the shipping macros, they're there. Go to Tools>Macro>Play (this opens the WP macro directory) and choose endfoot.wcm or footend.wcm (which perform the functions mentioned above).

Noticed Tool => Copy Bible Verses has option to format for WordPerfect, then Copy:

Copy places formatted Bible verses on clipboard, then can switch to WordPerfect to paste into document.

Yes it does, but it doesn't paste well. You must still paste unformatted or as RTF. Often CTRL-V doesn't work, or gives unreliable results (this is a WP issue, not a Logos issue).
