How to install Logos 4 to an external hard drive

My wife would like me to install Logos 4 on her computer, but is concerned about the size of the resources. She is also concerned about download/upgrades since she doesn't always have her external hard drive connected to her laptop. Is there a way to download the program to her laptop harddrive and store the resources to an external hard drive? In L3 this didn't seem to be a problem. We just copied the resources to the external and specified the drive to search for in the program, but in L4 there don't seem to be any setup instructions to do this.

I don't believe so. the program and the resources go in the same drive....

Well, they have to be under the same drive letter, and it is possible to mount multiple drives under one drive letter using Windows disk management tools; though this would be unsupported by Logos... Which version of windows are you running?

Damian thanks for this, but I'm not particularly interested in workarounds or unsupported options (more because I'm not THAT much of a techie). What I'm wondering is this: Since I have not yet installed L4 on her computer, but L3 is with the specified path to the external hard drive and seems to access them ok, will that be sufficient to upgrade all her resources and L4 program updates if L4 is installed on her laptop harddrive?

When you install L4 it will copy all the unlocked sources to the install drive, then download the rest onto that same install drive. The method above is the only way around it.

I no longer have an XP home working to test it with, but I'm sure that in the computer management console, under disks you can mount another drive to a folder.

Thanks, Thomas. Does this mean that once L4 is installed, indexed and updated, I can uninstall L3 (including the \Libronix DLS\Resources directory)? Or must the L3Gold and assundry other resources remain in the \Libronix DLS\Resources directory ? (BTW, where is Logos 4 located? I don't see it anywhere under \Program Files?)

My main concern here is having enough HD space left over for L4's metadata on searches. As it stands I'm down to 12 GB.

Yes you can completely remove L3 including the resources.

L4 copies all resources that it needs to it's own directory.

I realize space is an issue, but you can run L3 & L4 side by side without issue.

Please cross check the "what's missing" link in my sig to make sure that there's nothing pending for L4 that you need, before you uninstall L3.
