Stereoscopic images...bear with me...this works!

Ok....
I was looking around for a cheap stereoscope to look at the stereoscopic images or make one when I came across directions to look at them in 3-D with the naked eye...
have you ever done those eye exercises where you cross your eyes..?
Or have you relaxed your eyes to see those "hidden pictures" that pop out of the book when you do it just right?
The same thing applies to these images...put your screen about 5 inches or so from your face
Cross your eyes A LOT and relax them and try to catch things at the point where you see:
Left side pic..........3-D middle pic............Right side pic
the pictures on the left and right won't look anything like 3 D but there will be one hanging right in the middle that IS 3D....
it's amazing!

Why not set the viewing mode to "Wiggle" and save your eyes?

Richard,
Wiggle just "does a rough approximation" of 3D...
This is just like when you were a kid and looked into those machines on main street in disneyland? Remember? 5c for 5 minutes or whatever...

I agree. Besides, what's Damian to do?
I don't have time to star at the stereoscopic pics. I'm too busy on these forums having serious conversations.

My images do not turn into 3d when I stare at them. I'm going to call tech support. If they don't get this right I want my money back. [|-)]

Go see Toy Story 3D at the theater and keep the glasses that you paid for. They seem to actual work here.

Robert,
While you were figuring this all out, did you by any chance happen to hear your wife whispering something like, "Come along children ... we need to leave Daddy alone ... he's not feeling well right now."?

OK, I know I'm a year behind the curve, but I just figured out that these stereograms were viewable just by using the cross-eye technique. And - WOW! I clicked through every one this afternoon. It's hard to say what a difference the 3D makes for many of these images. Some are just breathtaking when you're finally able to see "through" the screen and into the third dimension. Although the "wiggle" mode is a nice approximation, it doesn't hold a candle to the detail of the real thing. I'd love to have more resources like this!
One idea - would it be possible for future versions of these resources to include the "alignment dots" at the top of the normal view? Those are the two dots you're supposed to stare at to adjust your vision - once they merge and are in focus, the rest of the scene should be sharp as well. After I got the feel for these images, I could see into them pretty quickly, but it would have been helpful to have those dots as a guide in the first place. They'd also serve as a reminder that you can actually do that in the first place.
One tip for folks willing to cross their eyes to give this a try (and it's worth it!) - don't start out full-screen. Keep the images smaller. That means there's less crossing for your eyes to do. The larger the images, the more your eyes will have to work to achieve the 3D effect.
If you find this as cool as I do, there are other stereoscopic images out there - try Flickr as a good starting point: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=stereoscopic
There are even stereoscopic videos, including a 3D version of the Avatar trailer. [:D]

What issue are you having?
Can you access the resource?
Do you have the required / recommended stereo glasses?
