Uh oh...my downloaded resources have vanished!

G'day peoples...a little help please.

I am using the Android app. on my Asus Transformer, which has been working perfectly. I am not aware of any recent updates, as I always do them manually.

Yet, today, the unthinkable! The thousands of resources I have painstakingly downloaded over the months have gone. Well, they are still showing up in my library, but not as "downloaded" items. It gives me the option of downloading the resources again...obviously weeks worth of work.

Is there anything I can check? Surely they are still there on the tablet, just for some reason are not showing as downloaded. Here's hoping.

Any suggestions?

I had this happen too on yesterday (I have a Transformer as well). Make sure that you're still logged into your Logos account; I had gotten logged out for whatever reason, which is what gets rid of all your downloads.

Unfortunately, I think it clears the downloads after you've been logged out. For me, all of my downloaded Bibles were still there, but any other books I had to download again, which was a bit of a pain.

When signing in, use Portrait Mode and Black on White colors. If password is typed wrong, all downloaded resources are lost. I believe downloaded resources are kept if one does not attempt to sign back in. I lost mine after typing in the wrong password.

I use the Kindle Fire and White on Black colors and / or Landscape Mode obscures the input box increasing the chance of an incorrect log in.

This happened to me also. In my mind there is really no good explanation for why this occurred.

This happened to me once before but trhe only answer that I was given was because it was beta, this kind of thing happens. I have limited internet access and now hours of work and money spent on data have suddenly disappeared. Needless to say, I am greatly dissapointed with the lack of coomunication concerning this .

This happened to me last night when I signed on with my Nook Color (rooted). I had approx. 25 books downloaded to my SD micro card and one of them takes about 5 minutes to download. What I noticed when I was online with the Logos app for Android was that there was a downloading going on and it was a little long.

If I remember rightly, then things went dead. I quit the app and went back to it. Then I had to sign in again and it began the downloading process and said it was updating the library. Then I noticed I still had about 5 books on my Nook. The others were not there. So I figure...

that there was an update to some of the books and those would have to be downloaded again while the others did not have the update. It gave me a chance to download some different books and leave some others which got erased from the Nook. It was an opportunity to "refresh" or take another look at what I had available. So it is not all negative. I don't need to carry around a huge library on a portable machine. I have my computer at home for the real in-depth stuff.

I am supposing that I am correct in my "assessment" of what occurred though I may not be correct. That is for the experts to say.

Precisely the same thing happened to me, I lost almost all of my resources in my library and suddenly picked up about 12 GB of space on my micro SD card. I was so upset that I delighted the Logos app from my Droid X.

Same thing happened on my Kindle Fire last night. Had my resources during an evening Bible study at church, but when I wanted to do some reading before bed ... all resources had vanished.

Did not FORCE CLOSE the app or log out or anything... the app just apparently "forgot" who I was. Going to have to re-download EVERYTHING AGAIN!

Logos - could we PLEASE have a different way to get our resources onto our mobile devices? Having to re-download everything when the app goes flaky is driving users crazy!

Logos have been silent but there has been an incident that caused Forum users to re-login, L4 users to restart the app and Android users to re-login with disasterous consequences (iOS?).

To see what resources are still on the device view Library whilst offline (Flight mode, or switch off your Wi-fi/3G/4G). Your other resources will have to be re-downloaded.

Thank you to everyone who has responded...at least I know Im not alone. I honestly cant think why your downloaded resources would disappear even if you are logged off or signed out. Not only have I spent thousands of dollars on my resources, not that all are available on Android, and spent countless hours downloading my resources onto my tablet individually, now all it takes is a glitch in the cloud that signs you out and automatically erases 10gb, or months worth, of tedious downloading. This is not good enough! Not only does this need to be fixed, but a bulk download feature needs to be added before I use the Android app again (which is my preferred L4 usage). I love my logos, as is indicated by my spenditure, but for now its back to the desktop. Anyone want to buy my tablet...lol...since L4 Android app was the definitive factor in buying it. Well, here's hoping logos sees fit to fix these issues, which to me as a user, are obvious.

Alas, nothing was saved. Will have to spend SEVERAL hours to get things back on.

If it helps Logos any, here's the breakdown of what happened on my end.

Last night, was using my Kindle Fire at church (WiFI connected) and had full access to my resources. Put Kindle into sleep mode before leaving.

Arrived home, plugged in the Kindle for charging and turned it on for some bedtime reading (WiFI connected at home).

When Kindle woke up, was at the Logos app Home screen, with no devotionals at the top and when I entered my library, only had the "free account" resources available. Soon after resources started showing up (no progress bar seen at the top of the app), but devotionals still missing from Home screen. Noticed that resources no longer had the downloaded icon on them. Checked storage used on the Kindle and space was rapidly expanding as Logos was deleting the stored cache. [:'(] I was watching hours of d/l time disappearing!

Devotionals did not return to the Home screen until I re-logged into the app.

Like I mentioned earlier, I went nowhere near the login controls on the app until after everything had been erased by the app on its own.

Again, I must ask Logos to look into another way for us to add/keep our resources on our mobile devices. Thankfully I do not have bandwidth caps at home, but I DO have a time cap. [:(]

As much as I love Logos, the communication issues (iOS 5 update requiring complete reloading of d/l resources [warning was only AFTER the fact in the forums - never did see an official warning from Logos], lack of L3 support of new resources w/o warning when the decision was made [thanks for the later clarification Logos, but you would expect an announcement before, not after such an important decision] and now this "Logos have been silent but there has been an incident") are starting to leave a bad taste...

I had the samething happen this morning using Kindle Fire, where I had the full Library showing, and then all of a sudden as I'm navigating around I lost all resources except for Bibles. So glad we have this forum, otherwise I think it would have driven me nuts... the logical part of me kept saying the server isn't working, but then why only the Bibles, and not only the ones I had downloaded, but also the ones in the cloud. Strange, but everything is back once I logged in again.

I wonder if this has something to do with the major ice and snow storm we've had here in Washington State. Logos' headquarters in Bellingham may have lost power, as did so much of Western Washington. Not sure if this is what happened, but I also lost all my downloads on my Kindle Fire this morning when I opened the Logos app. (Our power and internet finally was restored last night after 2 days.) Everything was there at first, then an update occurred, then everything was gone. Just my guess!

Plugged my fire into my mac and found the resources folder in the androidlogos directory. It's 3gb. So...are the files still there, yet somehow inaccessible? Anyone else notice this? Maybe we don't have to go through the problem/hassle of re-downloading...i'm really hoping that's the case.

If you had to re-login I'm not optimistic. Wait until Monday and the developers MAY have a workaround, but check your resource folder again (use the Folder app on the device).

My experience was about the same as Graham's, the only thing affected was the Logos App, the Bibles I had downloaded were still there (logos Bibles), because at Church this morning I forgot the password for the wi-fi, and only was able to use the Bible, and not a resource that I had previously downloaded. I would like to know from Logos, how that happens, why would all the other downloaded resources disappear, yet the Bibles didn't... seems unlogical to me.

I don't know the technical answers about Android, but I do know that we're building a more sophisticated system for managing downloads that will be released in the near future. (Sorry, no date yet.) You'll be able to do batch downloads, and even manage what books are downloaded to your mobile device from within Logos 4 or via the web site.

The forced log out was the result of a mandatory software upgrade on the servers, for security reasons. As I understand it, almost every web site will occasionally need some update that forces cookies to be reset, and users to re-log in. But we try hard to avoid it whenever possible.

The downloaded resource deletion happened to me as well. I spent a few hours downloading a couple hundred volumes of commentaries and theology. :-(

I do hope this issue is resolved ASAP, but I also know this is a risk I take in running a sub-v1 or Beta application.

That is commendable, but the problem happened because of server upgrade and I'm sure that we would like to have known in advance, and be assured that steps will be taken to eliminate the problem in the future. I didn't see any issue on the iOS forum...

I don't really buy the "We needed a logout" wiping out all the data. This makes zero sense. I should be able to log out and log back in and have access to my files.

Here's what I suspect, since it was reported as a "mandatory software upgrade on the servers, for security reasons", I suspect there was an issue with sending or sharing resources with other android users, and other android users accessing that content without actually having the license to open it.

This is my suspicion, but it should be fixed. There is no reason that logging out of the Android Logos Application would remove all the books, or that after logging backing, a redownload would have to take place. Logging out should just not permit the local files to be accessible.

I agree. I completely understand the need for server upgrades, but a reset of downloaded resources, as well as not (yet) having a way to bulk download the ones we want, is what makes this so frustrating. Along with not being notified. If I'm going to reset a main server at my job, where I work IT, especially if it's during the day, I email people to let them know. A few people may get annoyed with the extra communication, but most would rather know beforehand.

Thanks for working on this, Logos. I think you have the best Bible software out there in terms of available books and potential. I've invested quite a bit between base packages and commentary upgrades and so on. But being confident I can access those books with a minimum of hassle is a deciding factor between you being my source for all my future theology resource purchases, or just a few. Thanks for all the features you have added and I look forward to future additions, like split-screen viewing and eventually notes/highlighting.

My apologies for how my comment was taken. I wasn't assuming individuals were lying, but based on what was being released from Logos, that the fullness of the story wasn't coming to light. Whether it was a breakdown between the boots on the ground and commanders up top, or any number of things that can go wrong between the reporter and the technician, it just did not seem to make a lot of sense to me with how it was being reported. It was wrong for me to assume that you did not have the fullness of the story to report.

I'm in IT, and I know that many times when there is an emergency server outage notification or whatnot going out to employees (or even when we get a notification from our colo...), the notification is somehow represented as something that is not as particularly spot on as it could have been. This is mostly due to the fact that there is a language barrier between IT and non-IT, or that IT just doesn't want to go into the amount of detail that could be released.

No QA or mock go-live? I know, being in IT, you can't test everything, but this change seems to have been a big enough as well as cause a consistent enough problem that it should have been spotted. Especially if it was known that it would cause a re-log in. If anything, I guess there will be a post-mortem (Good times... important meetings on a Monday).

These sound like very good plans. I can't wait until they are live. Until then I'm very leery of going through the process of downloading all the resources I had on my device previously without a greater level of assurance that they should stay there for a while.

Like I said before, I know that things like this taking place is the risk I take in running a sub-v1 or Beta application... I am grateful that Logos is developing an Android application, and also the impact Logos as a Bible study application has had on my studies.

Keep up the good work, LBS developing a good product, that has me heavily invested in, and that I use daily.

I appreciate the candor. I'd like to reinforce that this is more than an "inconvenience" for some users. Take a look at this thread for an example of a person who will be paying more than $50US to re-download her data.

I'd suggest a significant warning that downloaded books may need re-downloading.

I still do not understand why Logos will not allow us to copy the books from our resource directory. They have all our license info, so why not give us an application that can simply boost these resources to our phones. That would be great. Downloading these books again (with the possibility that this can happen again in the future) is not something I am looking forward to. The money is one thing, the lost time is another. We do not have the bandwidth to download these resources in one sitting, so I have to space it out over several months. Losing my downloaded resources not only meant lost cash, but a lot of lost hours.

Thank you Mr Pritchett... it is good to know the solutions are nearly there... and for the apology...for me, I am not in IT at all, and just thought that the hundreds of hours spent downloading the majority of my logos library meant they would always be there. I love logos, and really want the Android app especially to be developed more...here's hoping that bulk downloading options are not light years away! I honestly think that I will eventually end up using the Android app more than my desktop.

It's a good idea but unfortunately not that simple. Mobile versions need to be in a different format for a variety of reasons.

However -- since the Logos team truly desires to serve the body of Christ around the world, I would strongly encourage them to develop a user-friendly protocol and utility that enables people to sync books from PC to the mounted drive on a mobile device, eg via USB or directly connected SD card, etc.

(One suggestion: use the download bandwidth to securely manage the licensing, while direct transfer is used to manage the bulk data.)

I am certainly not downloading anything until this is sorted out. It costs way to much in terms of both time and money. I actually enjoyed using Logos for Android. Doing some study or reading while waiting for my kids etc. But unfortunately I am done with Logos for Android for now [:(]

We have indeed taken some initial steps to address this case in 0.9.4. For now, there should not be any more problems. We know this is an important issue, so we will make every effort to preserve your downloads if we see this scenario on the horizon in the future.

Had you previously re-logged in on your Nook after we had to re-authenticate everyone a week or so ago? If this occurred a second time (after you had already re-logged in and re-downloaded your books), it would be a concern...

Not sure when I was logged out or why. I did not reinstall the program. I did managed to log in at the end, but it required a few retries. Not sure why or how, but at least I have been logged in at the end.

The EULA states that we are to have individual accounts. [that is husband and wife are to not share the same login [except that it is acceptable when one is a power user and the other just reads books (second user is a very light user)]. So if there is only one Android tablet in the family and power user logs out and second user (with separate account per the EULA) logs in am I reading this correctly that all of power users books will be deleted and second users downloaded? That will mean that we cannot share a Android unit between two users???? Maybe if were could sync to our CPU instead of the Cloud? That would appear to be the case. The current design login/out scenario shows a lack of consideration for a single user and is obviously not designed for multiple accounts to co-exist (they would have to change the folder structure for that). Strangely, tablets are more likely to be a family device but they usually have less storage than a phone!

So you can use one device for two users but you would lose individual settings and history and don't bother to download resources.

So the work-a-round is for the family [that tried to follow the rules and get multi Logos log-ins] is to just use the POWER users account on the device!

This is intensely frustrating, just this last weekend I spent a good 2 hours RE-downloading for the second time.

There was no Logos update in the Kindle Fire app store, so downloaded the application, and it didn't install. I removed Logos and ran the .apk, Logos 0.9.4 installed no problems.

Just crazy.

This is incorrect. I install and uninstall things all day long. If I uninstall SQL Server, it does not delete my databases. If I uninstall Office, it does not remove my word files. If I delete a user off of the computer, it keeps the deleted user's "My Documents", "Application Data", etc.

If there is a high probability of the android application being uninstalled and reinstalled because of updates, I would think there should be a safeguard against deleting the files off of the device.

We're looking at it differently but I didn't qualify my comment. User-created work is not generally removed without asking your permission e.g. deleting a Windows user account. The Logos 4 desktop app will remove resources but keep your Documents after uninstalling.

After updating to a newer Logos Android app, my downloaded Bibles do not appear on the Offline Library list. When I checked SD card, my downloaded Bibles data is still there but I'm not sure how to access to it. It seems that a newer app does not even provide an option anymore to download the books again. If I'm wrong, plz enlighten me how to do it.

Now I got it! NRSV and NIV come with download link but not with ESV and NLT. Hope to provide all download links to the purchased books.
