adding free books to library

I'm struggling to figure out this software. I can access different versions of the bible from Biblia.com, but how do I add them to my logos 4 software? I launch Logos 4 (windows) and there is nothing in it. When I click on add preferred bible, the list is empty and it just says none.

I have it on my android phone and it appears to have a lot more tools and features than the desktop software. I haven't purchased any packages yet, I'm just trying to figure if it's worth it.

Tom, the free Logos software you installed on your computer has no resources. They must be purchased and then they will be downloaded so you can use them.

Biblia.com has some free resources which is what you have access to. If you purchase a package of resources for Logos 4 they will show up in Biblia as well.

There are a few free resources you can 'purchase' from the Logos store. You will need to set up an account and use a credit card even though nothing will be charged. After 'purchasing' them you can restart Logos 4 and it should shortly thereafter download them and eventually notify you that they are available to be installed.

Even with these you won't be able to truly appreciate Logos and what it can do for you. Purchasing a base package is the way to try out Logos. You have a 30 day examination period and can ask for a refund at that point if you aren't satisfied with it.

Wiki has Getting Started with Logos with tips and links, including many video tutorials so can visualize Logos 4 capabilities when have appropriate resources.

Thankful for Logos payment plan option so can extend payments over time. Logos plan does not charge interest per se, but does charge a per payment processing fee. Option: pay off plan early to avoid paying more fees for months not yet charged. Also, Logos has academic pricing, which is the best deal if you qualify.

Thankful for many friendly forum discussions, which are primarily focused on using Logos Bible Software.

Tom, welcome to the forums. You now know why your desktop application seems poor in comparison to biblia.com - actually it's the other way round, as the desktop application has all the power of your machine plus the "cloud", while the cloud-based services lack some things your PC may do. The power is in the library: Bibles, commentaries, lexicons etc. all work together for bible study. Thus: the more is in your library, the more power of Logos you can see.

Very true. There used to be more free books in the past, but some have been retracted by their publishers. Logos gives as free book per month now: http://www.logos.com/free-book-of-the-month?utm_source=logos.com&utm_medium=homepageslide&utm_campaign=fbotmjanuary and there may sometimes be free books on http://vyrso.com/ (Logos' second platform, offering "trade books" ) . When you test-drive Logos you will encounter the incredible feature to make your Logos books by yourself (go Tools / Personal Books) from Word docx-files. There is even a forum section named Files where people share their documents.

Edit: But don't take everything just because it's free - if you are not a student of Latin, Greek or the history of the Civil War, the thousands of free Perseus resources from Logos are likely to overwhelm you (even if you are there's a good chance for that...) so you may want to leave those out the first couple of days. /edit

Mark is right about the refund period. However, one may well use Logos without a "real" base package (I did for some ten months last year) - to experience it fully and have the look and feel (and the features) you get from the videos, it seems the minumum nedeed is the Minimal Crossgrade http://www.logos.com/minimalcrossgrade that sells for 69 USD.

thanks for all of the advice. when i refer o the mobile app , i mean that all i do is open it up and i can search the bible and click on a word and get he hebrew or greek text. i didnt install anyting special so it appears that the mobile app is more useful free version than the windos app. i just ssumed tha when i installed the logos windows software then id get the same free tools available on the free mobile app. ill check out the library and see whats available. untl then i think ill keep using esword which is plenty for me right now. thanks evryone.
