Repeatable Bug: drag and drop

I have just updated to 4.5 (4.50.0.1843) and am running on a MBA (2011), 13", 256SSD, i5, on Lion.

I have a shortcut for the ESV in the ribbon as per screenshot below,

On the stable 4.3 version, I was able to drag the ESV shortcut in order to open in a panel with the three-fingered gesture on the track pad or with a click and drag. This action now causes RC1 to go insane and ESVs replicate at an uncontrollable rate wherever the trackpad pointer happens to be resting.

The only way to prevent the replication is to force quit. When opening up L4 to the layout in use before the error, L4 functions as expected... Until one tries to drag the ESV from the ribbon.

This activity is repeatable.

I enabled diagnostic logging and then replicated the drag and drop action. I have attached the logs, hoping they might be of use.

Strangely, other resources are not effected. The NA27, for example, can be dragged from the ribbon without incident.

Edit: I have tried deleting the ESV and then re-adding the ESV to the ribbon. The behaviour still repeats, but the replication now ends after four or five unneeded ESVs have opened seemingly by themselves.

Thank you for the response.

I was wondering if perhaps the behaviour were related to the trackpad and the introduction of gestures? Something is awry with regards to the three fingered drag generally... It just feels clunky and imprecise and the panels are not resizing as they ought. This element felt more responsive in 4.3.

Out of interest, are you using a trackpad or mouse?

Apologies: unable to replicate using magic mouse with 27" iMac; albeit am noticing a lag between start dragging and blue outline for resource position so have to keep mouse button held down for a few seconds.

Wonder about workaround of right click on shortcut icon, then click an Open choice ? Caveat: may need to drag opened resource where desired.

that could be:

t, e ANDNOT type:(bible,commentary,lectionary)

Note: searching my library for "t" misses 2 resources, which is puzzling since one resource has a "t" in the title.

Also in Logos4.log are some errors for Rich Text Reference, which I have have not been able to replicate (personally a bit puzzled).

Although this appears to be a bug, it is not particularly inconvenient. I am able to drag from the library pane and the command bar.

Logos4.log file shows 5 copies of ESV opened with a few seconds between them.

On the occasion which produced the log, I killed L4 (forced quit) at five. The earlier occasion, when I was trying to suss out what was going on, fifteen or twenty were open on the screen.

Looking at Logos4.log, noticed a library search for:

a, e, i, o, u ANDNOT type:bible ANDNOT type:commentary ANDNOT type:lectionary

that could be:

t, e ANDNOT type:(bible,commentary,lectionary)

This search relates to a collection which excludes bibles, commentaries and lectionaries, but should include everything else. Are you recommending I amend the collection to 't, e ANDNOT type:(bible,commentary,lectionary)'? I understand from your post that this will return approximately the same results? Are there benefits in terms of speed in simplifying the rule in this way (specifically with reference to 't, e' in place of the vowels)?

Yes along with being bit less to type. Wikipedia has letter frequency page => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_frequency showing "t,e" are the most frequently used consonant and vowel along with "t" being the most used letter to begin English words (e.g. the).

From copying and pasting into library, then watching refresh, appears rating:>=0 is the fastest way to find and display all Library resources while t,e and edition:(e,L,U) are quick with type:* being the slowest. Hence quickest collection definition is:

rating:>=0 -type:(bible,commentary,lectionary)

rating:>=0 ANDNOT type:(bible,commentary,lectionary)

Note: the single minus character is equivalent to ANDNOT.

Thanks for the clarification, Jack.

Having now used 4.5 for a couple of days, I can report that the experience is altogether positive. I like many of the new introductions and am looking forward to getting to grips with the newly designed notes. I suspect that this development better suits my needs with regards to notes and highlights.

The bug is a minor issue and very easy to work around.
