update to 4.5

Will not open or update says I need to check to see if I have access to a long file that ends with: logos.documents.contracts.dll How do I do this?

Hi David - and welcome to the forums
I expect that this is an anti-virus issue. A number of people have seen either Webroot or Avira reporting false positives with Logos 4.5
Have a look at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/44395.aspx (for example) for a discussion on this and some suggested approaches.
There are some other threads which talk about this as well if this doesn't give you all you need.

still need help. Logos is cleared with my Webroot security. Still can't update. Is there a way to back out of the update? Why does this software have to be so complicated to the average computer user? Great software, content, but too complicated with the updates.

David, sorry you are still having a hard time. What exactly did you do with Webroot? Do you have a log from the latest installation attempt?
EDIT: Check this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/44623.aspx

I restored a file from the quarantine folder and the last update finally worked. Now about 2 weeks later with this update there is nothing in the quarantine folder, but a logos entry somewhere else that is ok to use, but it will not install. I don't know what to do next. I can't find a log from the latest installation attempt.

Can you give us more information, please. What exactly happens when you try and run Logos? Can you give us the exact error message (if there is one), or a screenshot.

"Error writing to file:
c:\users\davidgrant\appdata\local\logos4\system\logos.documents.contracts.dll
verify that you have access to that directory"
logos.documents.contracts.dll This is listed in the "Detection Configuration" portion of the webroot, but is shown to be allowed. As far as I can tell, it was caught when I tried to update, and this stopped it. I checked to allow this and it still won't update.

David,
This sounds like a user access issue like one that Kevin Becker addressed here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/36636.aspx You might take a look and see if his fix can help.

Didn't help, but opened it up by clicking "Run as Administrator" Don't think it is the newer version, but I am going to pass on new updates. Please do something to help us average computer users to update without going through all of this - it is way too complicated. This is great software, but it is proving not to be user friendly. Please address this soon. Since it has to be updated to add more material, I guess I will pass on purchasing new material.

David,
Take advantage of Logos' free Tech Support. They can remote into your computer and see if they can get things straightened out.
I agree that in particular this upgrade has been a problem. Most of mine in the past have gone without issue as this one did. So all in all my experience has not been as frustrating as yours, but you are not alone on this upgrade as you well know.
Give Logos a call and let them work on getting you up and running.

The is certainly a problem caused by WebRoot, not by Logos. It was reported to Webroot more than three weeks ago. You can ring tech support as Mark suggested (make sure they know about what happened with Webroot).
Or, if you would rather we help, please check that the instructions here have been followed: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/42487/319273.aspx#319273
Then try to install Logos again, from this link: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe
If that doesn't work, please post a screenshot of the install error message and of Webroot's Detection Configuration page.
