A Few Very Basic Questions About Passage Guide

Running passage guide, runs just the passage guide and leaves all else as is.

Name your desired passage guide "My Passage Guide" and it will be run as the system passage guide.

So what is the difference between entering a reference in the "GO" box on the home page verses clicking the drop down at the top of the home page and clicking on "Passage Guide?" I would think it would generate the exact same response but it doesn't. Using the "GO" option also opens a full desktop of materials whereas the former option doesn't.

I believe the thinking behind this is that when new users first open Logos, they do not know what it can do, or the best things to open up. But they do see this box labeled "type a passage here", or whatever its labeled. So they type a passage and Logos shows them what sort of things L4 can do. The direct passage guide link is more for those who have figured out what their options are with Logos and want more control to open the things they want, the way they want them.

And as described in the previous thread (I forget who wrote it) if you want to override the default Passage Guide, just name the guide you want to use "My Passage Guide" and Logos will use that one instead.

Thanks for your response. I do have a custom "My Passage Guide." But when I use the "GO" box to go to my passage it uses the defauly Passage Guide not My Passage Guide. I assume this is just the way it is until Logos increases the ability to customize the home page?

It should run My Passage Guide. I just did it again and My Passage Guide ran, not the system version.

Can you post a screenshot of your My Passage Guide.

If my theory above is correct, its to be expected, I suppose. If someone is new to Logos they have not set up a custom guide. if the point of that box is for Logos to show them what is possible then they will want to use their guide. They wouldn't have set up collections yet so they don't need those sections.

If it really is labled My Passage Guide and there are no hidden spaces or spelling errors, then it should run as default...mind does...

How about renaming it by cutting and pasting this:

My Passage Guide

shut down logos/reopen and tell us how it goes....

There must be a problem - because the system works. But without seeing if there is a slight spelling mistake or some other issue, I can't help any further.

You can download a screenshot program (like Jing) or if you have a basic picture editor ((microsoft paint) then 1) open it 2) go to the window you want to take a picture of 3) hit the print screen button 4) go to your image editor and hit ctrl-V or find the paste entry under the edit menu 5) save 6) upload. If you want a really cheap (as in free) but very good image editor, download irfanview - once your "print screen" image is pasted in, you can select an area, hit ctrl-y to crop it, save the image and post it.

no but I should.... nevertheless, I'm sure that this only the third time I've used it.

I usually let people run a few times before I offer a correction - sometimes it's a typo, sometimes they self-correct, sometimes I ask them to spell my name correctly and they carry on regardless

The only thought I have is that in "My Passage Guide" I have a few collections included named "My Theology" and "My Bible Dictionaries"---don't know if that might somehow mess up the ability of Logos to use "My Passage Guide" as a default.

Open your Passage Guide of choice.
In th Resource Panel, click on "Edit Guide Template".
Make the changes as highlighted below. You can either select the minuscule pencil or select the title itself and start typing accordingly. NOTE: to past into this section, simply click on the title, then right click to bring up a menu in which you can select "Paste".
When done making changes to your custom Guide go back in the Resource Panel, click "Close"
