iPad/iPhone: Is Network Connectivity Required For...
Is network/internet connectivity required for:
1) Searching a downloaded translation
2) Participating in a Reading Plan
I was using the YouVersion app. It used to be good. However, now you have to be connected to do a simple word search or to participate in a reading program. I really want to be able to do those things off-line. I guess I could live with a connectivity requirement for a reading program, but not for a word search. Time to find a new app. Thanks.

Dear Nick,
I wasn't sure about this myself, but I have just switched my iPad onto airplane mode and can confirm that, in 2.0, you can run a search on your downloaded translations/resources (I have just run a simple search in the ESV).
Although you can access the reading plan while offline, you will need to go online at some point in order to sync.

It depends upon what you are wanting to do. If you are wanting to search for an english word, yes. If you are wanting to search for an mss or lemma, no. If you have more questions about this, feel free to give an example of what you want to do.

Yes and No. Reading plans are really designed to be created and maintained through the desktop app. I believe that you can start a very basic plan from the mobile app alone, but the mobile app is really designed to complement the desktop app. The way that the old app was supposed to work: you would create a reading plan on your computer, the plan would sync to the mobile app with 15 days of readings. As you read through the plan, the app would sync with your computer and maintain a 15 day supply of readings. Unfortunately the sync infrastructure was unable to keep up with demand. Logos just finished a new version of the mobile app to complement the new version of the desktop app (4.5). Notes & Highlights switched over to a new sync infrastructure - reading plans are slated for an update very soon. The desktop version is in beta now, the mobile version should begin soon. The desire is to have a "Very short" beta cycle... but like all betas, you have to see what you get as problems arise. The update may come as soon as 2-3 weeks, but Logos is making no timetable public.
I said all of that to say this: you will need an internet connection, but not a daily one. In all likelihood, you will also need to download and install the desktop app unless you just want a very basic "through the bible in a year" plan.
[EDIT: Andy - you said in a few lines what I said in 20. [:)]]
