Yes, I agree. Besides that number of annotations approaches the 16,xxx number which might be a counter overflow as well (and there are at least another 500+ annotations in other than yellows). I will wait and see what they say.

While the number is large it will not be that untypical for users in the future I believe. It represents multiple highlights in most verses of a Bible from daily devotions - a reasonable expectation. The architecture of highlights will definitely need to handle these large numbers. I have been concerned that the implementation of highlights through notes might become an issue - we have had problems with large notes in the past. But then maybe not.

I guess I will stop speculating and wait and see.

Is there a way to just delete all of the highlighting without deleting the notes?  I've got around 1400 pages of markings, but I've noticed that somewhere along the lines a marking of one word has leaked into the who verse or paragraph for some of them.  Others are missing where they were originally placed.  And still others have been shifted over a word or two. Might be time to dump the whole lot of them and start over.  Yes?

I am not sure exactly what you are asking... but with Logos 4.5 highlights ARE notes. If you have other note files, you can keep those and only delete the note files you want to get rid of. If you were to get rid of a note file with highlights in it, then the highlights (which are notes) would disappear.

Might be time to dump the whole lot of them and start over.  Yes?

I would not want you to feel like you HAVE to do that. I do not have nearly the amount of highlights that you do, but my primary file was over 100 pages. I ended up creating new note files for various books, and plan to keep with that schema. [In my mind, notes are always tied to books rather than palettes, so I am organizing my files that way]. I am thinking about dumping my main ESV devotional highlight file to start over. I am thinking about this for a couple of reasons.

    1. I learn when I highlight
    2. I am perfecting my system, so it would be nice to redo my highlights
    3. Currently, the mobile app doesn't have the ability to turn individual highlight files on&off. If I could do that, I would likely keep my original file & just start a new one.

Getting rid of this file would not mean getting rid of all my highlights, just the ones in the ESV. This is because I have already took the time to separate the highlights into separate folders. I have not yet asked the developers what problems may occur from such a drastic action. It might be a good thing to ask.

Since I've got all of my high lighting in a few different 'folders' and my notes in a other folders, I'm wondering if I could just delete the 'My Markings' folder and be on my way.

Of course, if keeping it would help Logos figure out the issue, I'll keep it around for a bit.  But ultimately, it would be good to start over.

    Hi Danny,

We realize there are customers with a lot of highlighting/notes that are having sync issues with their mobile devices.  We are closing in on the problem and thank you for your patience.

Kevin, add me to that list.  If you need my highlighting/notes to help reproduce the issue, let me know.

As long as there is a recognition that these problems exist and someone is looking into it, I am more than patient. I realize the sometimes it takes time. I just wanted to be sure that LOGOS viewed it as a problem and someone was looking into it - I was wondering if Tom and I were the only ones experiencing problems. If no one was looking at it, I was going to do what I could to either narrow it down, or circumvent the problem. I am now content for the time being and will wait for an answer/solution.

I too am considering how I associate highlights to files. The one problem with multiplying files is that the manner of managing those files in LOGOS is not the best with all the files bunched together. I have some concern that this system will become unmanagable pretty quickly with the introduction of many more files. However, I also believe that large note files will always be creating new problems. It will become a necessity for LOGOS to change the file management system before long.

A second part of my problem is that separate highlight/note files with essentially the same name appear on the PC. For instance 'Highlight Pens' now also has a 'Highlights Pens (2)' showing on the file menu. It does not show up as a separate template but does show up as a separate file (all the ITouch highlights are segregate into this second file). Is this the way it is suppose to work, or will the two files be combined once my highlight sync actually works?

I think this is a separate issue. It certainly is NOT how it is supposed to work (and does not work that way on my iPad / iPhone).

I haven't seen this either - running Logos on my Mac and iPhone / iPad.  I'd install it on a Windows box if you think it would help.

I figure I will wait till syncing works and then see if it is still a problem. It may have to do with when syncing fails. Thanks for confirming that this is not the way it SHOULD be.

I will try to be more communicative in the future when customer issue arise.  Thanks again!

No reason to be apologetic. I appreciate your responsiveness throughout this time. I did not mean to communicate that I had been frustrated with that at all. I am anxious to utilize all the new features, but fully understand that issues arise. I can't express how important the one line 'we are aware and are looking at it.' comments can be. Lengthy times of noncommunication can cause frustration. However, that has not been the problem here. I appreciate both your effort and concern for customer service[:)] (a missing art in much of this world today).

Tom, I don't know if you saw the message below from earlier in the week about what looks like the same/different problem. Large highlight file not syncing (although it did sync to one of his devices???) In any case it looks like they have a priority on the problem. It would be nice to hear of any more current status tho. Yea, I have stopped doing anything but read on my ITouch. In the earlyl days I tried deleting the app and lost all my downloaded books. I am not going to risk having any more reworks / losses just in case.

    Alabama,

Thanks for responding so quickly to my problem.

First concerning the "favorites", those empty folders does point to actual links to pages in books.

Second I've tried to count the pages of each palette using A4 size paper and Logos 4.5a beta 4 crashed repeatedly. However I finally got the total no. of pages to be 1,500 pages.

I haven't get my iPad to sync yet.

    Thanks.

    Hi Gerard,

I am aware of sync issues that customers with large amounts of notes are experiencing. This is a high priority and we are working on solving the issue.

    Hi Tom,

Sorry about the delay in responding.

There have been some internal updates this week and highlights should now sync properly to your Desktop from those mobile devices capable of creating highlights/notes (which I assume you are using!).  Syncing won't happen instantly, but should complete within a few minutes.

Please let me know if this isn't the case or if you experience any further problems.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.

    Kevin,

Your comment said that the mobile device should now sync to the desktop. That was working already (at least for me). It was the sync from the desktop to the mobile device that was the problem. Should this be fixed as well? Would I need to hard shut down the device and/or do something at the desktop for the change to be effected?

    Danny,

I've exactly the same problem as you except we are using different devices. We both have large highlight note files. I also get "My highlights 2" on the PC when highlighting on the iPad. I can't get the sync from PC to iPad but I can get it from PC to iPhone 4S.

  • Danny Parker

Yes. I have been monitoring your problem as well. Tom has the same problem with a large file that does not sync from the desktop. I don't believe that he has multiple files on the desktop, but he is using a Mac so it is slightly different. My problem remains unchanged - it is still a problem exactly as before.

  • Tom Gindrup

Danny is correct, I am using a Mac and it isn't creating multiple files.  I just ran a test and my notes created on my iPad are showing up on my Mac now!!!  So, we're making progress.  Here's what I know so far:

Mac -> iPhone / iPad:  Nothing syncing

iPad -> Mac:  Notes syncing, highlights not

    iPad -> iPhone:  Nothing syncing

I'm running a test now to see if the iPad app exits after an hour.

    My status:

I let my ITouch run over night. It continues to crash after an extended period of time (an hour?).
Thus, the Itouch still does not receive the highlights from the PC.

The notes I make on the ITouch do sync to the PC (as it did before). I am doing further tests, but it looks like these highlights are now syncing to the right file on the PC rather than to duplicated files. If so, this is an improvement.

Confirmed that the mobile media highlights are now appearing in the proper file when synced to the PC.

Still no syncing from PC to mobile media.

Fresh news. Syncing is now working from the PC to the ITouch for new highlights that are in at least one of my highlight files. It appears that only one file is syncing. But at least it is one.

I've done a little more digging.  I stopped all of the running apps, stopped mail from retrieving, etc.  Cleared the iPad Console and launched the Logos app.  Collected the log files for the hour - until it exited - and am uploading them below.  It looks like it's complaining about having low memory - even though there are no other apps running.

Another highlight file from the desktop is now syncing to my mobile device.

Notes from the PC still do not show up. Nor does the very large file. LOGOS on IOS still exits after about an hour.

I just let todays updates come in to both my Mac and PC. now that those are finished, I tried to see how my set up is working...

my PC, Iphone, and Ipad all sync with each other very quickly, but nothing will sync with my mac nor will my mac sync with anything... it is funny how we all have a similar issue, yet totally different non syncing devices.

A further update, I went over to church, got my 3rd gen itouch, and everything came over from the other idevices, and the pc, and when I made a highlight on the touch, it went to the other devices as well, except that not all of the symbols are coming across such as the x or ! but nothing is going to or from my Mac...
