48 hours to index?

I have a relatively new computer (less than one year old)

AMD Turion 64 X2, 2.10 Ghz

4GB Ram

Vista 64

Windows Experience Index 2.5 (Gaming Graphics 2.5, Processor 4.9, Memory 5.6, Hard Disk 5.2)

My library download was 11.5 GB (took all night)

indexing for six hours now and the status indicates i have over 48 hrs to go!

is there something I can do to make this go faster?

My indexing time jumped around, it just all depends on what it is indexing at the time, it is it graphics or media, it will take longer.

Might be it is indexing Interlinears right now. That makes estimates jumping up. You will see in one hour or two. It should get to normal.

In my experience - very similar to yours - the time estimate is next to useless. Make sure you have plenty of available space left on the HD (about 4gb is best) which gives plenty of room for the system to work. I shut down everything except Logos and it took a solid 24 for my stuff. It will finish.

thank you gentlemen. I paused the indexing, shut down the computer (after installing 8 updates!) and then rebooted.

the indexer started up right away and showed estimated time remaining at 5 hrs...

but it is growing steadily...its already showing 36 hrs...

my cpu shows pegged at 100%...and I have 86 GB of free space on my hard disk...

could something like Norton or my firewall be slowing it down?

Actually, your Antivirus should not be effecting the install speed unless the background scan takes up enough CPU power to cripple the indexing. As far as your firewal, if you normally do not have an issue with large downloads then there is no reason that the firewall would effect the indexing.

If you have a firewall like Comodo that has process protection in place then this is possible but you would get prompted with each change the indexer attempted to make to your PC.

On my gaming laptop which is hardware intensive and runs on Win 7 x64 my Logos 4 Platinum installed and indexed in just a few hours [maybe 4 or 5]. On my 5 y/o Desktop running Win 7 x86 and only 2 gigs of ram with a Celeron processor the install and indexing took 36 hours, yes 36 actual hours total.

Your machine is somewhere in between my 2 machines as far as hardware. Do you have any other processing running while the indexing is happening? Can you send a screenshot of your Task Manager so I can see what you are running in the background.

Ed, you can't paste a screenshot, you must uploas it using the media icon on the formatting bar.
