What "revert to template" does?

I have tried to understand what the option "revert to template" does. It is located in the Guide options.

I clicked on it in the default Passage Guide and in a Custom Passage Guide but I did not see what it does. Could someone explain its function?

I haven't tested it, but my guess is that it is for when you have added items to the passage guide beyond the original template being used. Revert to original gets rid of all the sections you added and restores sections you have closed. Just a guess.
