SUGG: Sympathetic Notetaking OR Adding a Note to a Greek Word in a Reverse Interlinear English Bible

Often I will be writing notes about a particular word in a verse. In this case I have a rather lengthy note entry about the use of the word "beloved" (agapetos) in 1 John 4:7, 11. I am tying that note entry to the word "beloved" in the ESV for 1 John 4:7.

What I would like to do would be to tie that note file to the word Ἀγαπητοί and have it appear across all Bibles with reverse interlinear functionality as tied to the word "beloved". This would be sort of like sympathetic highlighting, but just for note files.

Currently, if I'm reading in NASB (or any other Bible) I will simply miss the fact that I have a lengthy study note on Beloved.

This looks as though it is included in the top request on Uservoice - http://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-4/suggestions/1619077-rework-notes-function-in-one-or-multiple-phases - which calls for being able to link a note to a lemma.

But, for clarity, Jacob do you want this to show up against agapetos just in 1 John 4:11 or for every occurrence of that word?

Noticed Logos suggestion for adding Note to Bible Word Study; would much prefer being able to highlight lemma in all Bibles with reverse interlinear tagging along with choice of Note indicator and highlighting style.

I would like the option to do either...Perhaps tying it to the lemma would make it appear for all instances of agapetos and tying it to the manuscript would have it appear only in 1 John 4:11.

Optimally I would like to be able to keep a general word study note tied to the lemma. But if I am doing a word study that would include a lot of context specific notes it would be best to be tied to the individual verse but visible across all translations.

I don't know that I have done all the work on the word study unless I actually run another word study report.

There was another thread with a similar wish (don't remember exactly) but the best suggestion for current functionality I saw there was to attach a note to the entry in BDAG (or whichever lexicon is your first go-to source for a Greek word).

For me, my current best practice is just to take the notes within the Word Study Guide. Nevertheless, I hope that this functionality is granted in the future.

While I don't expect it in the near future, I believe that in a discussion with Bob P. on notes I convinced him that this can be done in a way that is compatible with the UI philosophy of Logos and that it is/will be seriously considered - and most likely implemented. Note Bob P's concerns were very legitimate - he has to balance ease of use of the basic user with the advanced features that the scholars and power users want. If you look at it from that perspective, a number of his priority choices make a great deal of sense even though they don't reflect the forum regulars' priorities.

I was just thinking about this and wondering about a possible way to work with this, so you do know you've done some work on a word, and have a way that whenever you encounter that word you know you have a study on it: You could create a unique visual filter that clues you in to that fact.

Let's say you've never used double/purple underlines for anything yet. Create a visual filter called "WordStudies" and whenever you do an in depth word study on a word, put a visual filter in that file for (e.g.) <Lemma = lbs/el/ἀγαπητός> and and use double purple underline as the visual clue. When you do your next word study, for which you have some notes you want to remember, put that word (e.g. <Lemma = lbs/el/λόγος>) in the same file, use the same visual filter (double/purple underline). This will let the visual filter show up in any reverse interlinear, and the Logos created Greek texts (like the LGNTI). The strategy only requires using a unique visual filter that you can easily recognize and remember.

I realize this is a work-around, but until we have the functionality you're asking for it could work.
