I'm in on the current price since Last Christmas - however I note that my Logos library contains http://www.logos.com/product/3504/collins-latin-dictionary-and-grammar (which is nice, since the Latin language Perseus texts are keyed to there lemmas, this opens up on double-click) as well as http://www.logos.com/product/2138/dictionary-of-the-vulgate-new-testament . But: both of these give short glosses only, much like Newman ( http://www.logos.com/product/1793/greek-english-dictionary-of-the-new-testament ) in the Greek language.
To educate potential buyers, one should therefore note that
- Lewis & Short seems to be THE Latin Dictionary.
- It's paper version currently sells at $250 and is thoroughly high-rated on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Latin-Dictionary-Founded-Andrews-Freunds/dp/0198642016/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1330171570&sr=8-8 (interstingly, the few reviewers who offered points of critique referred to aspects such as low print quality or heavyness of the book that we won't have in Logos)
- Lewis & Short is often compared to Liddell-Scott
http://www.logos.com/product/3879/liddell-and-scott-greek-english-lexicon as indispensible for the scholar wanting to interpret Latin texts - Lewis & Short covers classical as well as later Latin, thus giving access to Perseus as well as Christian texts
- While Logos intends to produce the original PD version, however, this seems not very different from the current edition. If I compare Amazon's sample pages from the 2002 edition with those on the Logos CP page - e.g. on Aba, abactus - I see no difference.
- Some reviewers on Amazon felt Lewis & Short to be much better than the OLD (see this very detailed review:

Very well said - I hope that more people will bid on this. To my way of thinking, Dictionaries like this are not like just any resource - one that some might have need for, but not others. It's something nearly everyone would benefit from to one degree or another.

Couldn't agree with you more. And the elegant plea by NB Mick is on point. I've been in since last year and even upped my bid to the maximum, convinced that this text is one of those resources you'll use again and again.
$24 is a steal. For those of you that understand the usefulness of this resource and its essential value, I urge you to up your bids!

I started my bid awhile back at $30 and still think it's a great value at that. It seems that the system is saying that $24 will succeed but, I would recommend bumping to $30 or more. We really need to get this one going!

I've bid $38 - to be honest, I'd pay a LOT more for this resource; however, I'm still trying to learn the ropes of bidding and all that, so I'll keep it there for a while. Something like this is worth many times the bidding range, in my opinion.

I've placed my bid. Meanwhile ...
I have no experience with Latin at all.
My Logos 5 system includes Mahoney's Overview of Latin Syntax, Lewis' An Elementary Latin Dictionary, and Whitaker's Dictionary of Latin Forms. I'm currently reading through Hodge's Systematic Theology which has numerous passages in Latin. Will the above three books on Latin be sufficient to help me understand those passages ( assuming liberal use of the very rudimentary iGoogleTranslate ), or would you recommend that I add something else ( currently available ) to my library.
I don't want to become a Latin scholar - I just want to be able to stumble through.

I'm not sure I would call that fast tracking. Isn't it more promoting since it is still less that 60%? Perhaps that's what you mean by fast tracking.

It looks to me like that phrase must be either a lie, or a promise. And they couldn't possibly lie to us, could they? Christians don't do that. So it must be a promise.[:)]

I like the irony. I perused the want adds ref'd on the Logos blog. I was surprised one of the requirements for the marketing positions was 'Appreciation for irony'. So much of their work demands irony.
But more seriously, I don't understand why latin CPs and PPs don't 'move'. It's like the holy ghost language is still with us. I hate to point this out, but learning and studying Ugarit is better supported in Logosland. Now, Ugarit DOES trace to early greek. So it makes sense. Latin doesn't lead to greek.

I too don't understand this. Personally I think that fewer people read Latin these days, I being one of them. But this actually has spurred me on to learn the language and order these resources.

Thanks for bumping this. I'm in; I need a better Latin dictionary. I don't generally like to pay for PD resources, but this is one of those time where it looks like it would well be worth the cost.
