Background Collection

If I were creating a collection of all good customs and background commentaries and resource works (that include historical information, cuistoms and general bvackground information), what "type" would I use in the making of that collection?

I currectly have several good background commentaries but I want to make sure that I am utlizing them. Thanks for your help,

Type isn't that important for your rule. You'll want both Commentaries and Monographs and Encyclopedias, but the rule you use will probably limit results to those anyway, so probably not necessary to mention the type.

I am still tweaking my Background collection so it isn't perfect yet. I use this as the basic rule:

(title:background) OR (subject:background) OR (title:manners AND title:customs)

And I have "Plus these resources" and "Minus these resources" as follows (yours will differ according to what resources you have in your library):

The first item on the Plus side is my Bible Dictionaries collection which is made from the rule:

mytag:BibDict

Unfortunately I can't help you with the tagging; you'd have to do that manually, but here are the resources I've tagged with BibDict:

And all the remaining Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible volumes which didn't fit on the screenshot.

Here's my rule:

title:(background,manners,customs,milieu,archaeolog),subject:(background,manners,customs,milieu)

It does capture a few resources that I have to exclude, but in general I think it does a pretty good job. BTW, "archaeolog" is spelled that way to match both archaeology and archaeological.

I don't include general bible dictionaries or general introductions (like Rosie does)--I have other collections for those. I like to limit my collections to specific stuff to make the search results shorter. I can always expand my search later.

I am an Expository Preacher, so what would be the best way to seach a given text in this collection of Background?

For Bible Background, personally use rule:

Title:("Bible Atlas",Background,Context,Curiosities,Every,Images,Jewish,Judaism,Milieu,Manners,Map,Social,Talmud,Travel) OR Subject:(Jews,Judaism) OR Author:Jastrow

plus add Bible Dictionaries collection.

I am an Expository Preacher, so what would be the best way to seach a given text in this collection of Background?

One option is searching for verse reference:

Also can search Heading Text; Large Text; Title for topical words to find many articles and some images (Title):

Is there any difference in the search results in doing <~Phil. 4:4-8> or <bible = Phil 4:4-8> or <bible ~ Phil. 4:4-8>? I know the diffrences between the "=" and the "~", but was wondering if it would yeild any other results by having or not havig <bible> in there?

<Phil. 4:4-8> is the same as <~Phil. 4:4-8> which is the same as <bible ~ Phil. 4:4-8>
