Theological Journal Index

While I was using Libronix years ago I was able to index the Theological Journal Library by individually selecting a journal and using the "About" feature which gave the table of contents for the selected journal. I then did a copy/paste of each journal table of contents into a word file. Since upgrading to Logos 4 and keeping my Theological Journal Library current, does anyone know of a way to accomplish this same task? It is immensely helpful to be able to select any particular journal and quickly scroll through all the issues and their contents. It was time consuming but it paid off. I could also email anyone the word files if you would like of what I have.

I don't know of a way to do that in Logos 4. The TOC can't be copied. I was interested in doing this for some other resources the other day and could not find a work-around.

I'm sure others would like to build a personal book from your Word files. I'd suggest you post a zip file of them attached to a message in the Files forum.

I created an excel file a while back of all the journals up till volume 11 I think. It had authors, heading level, and some other information with it. I'm not sure where it is or if I have access to it on this computer. It had hyperlinks for L3 but I seem to remember that L4 broke some of the hyperlinks.

the only way I can think of doing this in L4 is to export the entire journal to word, delete all the none heading text by doing a Replace, and working from there. I think it would be very time consuming.

My workaround for copying TOCs is to use screen capture software (my one of choice is ABBYY Screenshot Reader). Using that, I just drag a rectangle around the TOC pane of the Logos resource and voila! It copies that TOC to the clipboard, and I can paste it into Word. I still have to adjust the indentations and such, but it saves me a lot of typing.

Libronix 3 is still useful for something, Bring up your library, rt. click on your resource, select "About this resource", copy and paste the Table of Contents into Word. (This is easy and quick) You can then use Logos 4 to find and add your links to the Word file.

Yeah, you need something that can do OCR. ABBYY Screenshot Reader is 100% correct when copying from screen text that isn't a scanned image to begin with. So from the Logos UI, there should be no errors in the copied text. I do sometimes have to put in carriage returns to split up lines that get joined, because it tries to make it all one wrapped paragraph. But that's a minor nuisance compared to the benefit of getting all the text in a machine readable form.

That would help. I tried downloading the free trial version but the site wasn't cooperating so I'll check back another day.

I uses an online free OCR reader and it did a good job, but there was a lot of reformatting to do. It would be nice if Logos let us have access to the TOC in L4.

You can also do this if you have OneNote. Open oneone>goto Home tab>select Screen Clipping>clip the section you want>right click on the picture>select "Copy Text from Picture"

Pretty good. I didn't know about OneNote's OCR capability either. It's not perfect, but then I just realized that ABBYY Screenshot Reader isn't perfect either. It doesn't have every word in its dictionary, I guess. So for example, but OneNote and ABBYY rendered worldview as woridview. OneNote does a better job with the line breaks, but it thought the first letter of Impossibility was a lower-case L (easy mistake to make), it thought Verification was venflcation (lower case v, n instead of ri, and lower-case L instead of i), and First got rendered as rirst. ABBYY had no other mistakes except Woridview and a couple of punctuation oddities; its formatting was cleaner (just plain text), but the line breaks were messed up. Here's a comparison:

Actually, come to think of it, some of the line breaks are messed up in OneNote too.

I think I'll stick with ABBYY Screenshot Reader. I've got it already, though, and I was fortunate enough to get it for $10. The price has gone up since I bought it. It's $29.99 now.

I did find out that for the Theological Journal Library, you can go to the Galaxie website and get the Table of Contents in a Table format with article name and author. The problem is that you have to open a new tab for each individual journal. I am in the process of doing the copy/paste legwork and can put that up for those interested. I have a fair amount done but have been saving the larger ones (Bib Sac has 150 years) for last so it may be a little bit.

I put the TOC for the Theo Journals in the File section. It contains all of the years for all of the journals in a zip file.
