Using NOT when creating a collection

I'm trying to create a new collection of all resources which are not commentaries. I've found that the following works:

NOT(type:commentary)

as the rule, however this include items like BST - 2 Corinthians which is classified as a commentary. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

When I try this, it seems to return all Bible Commentaries, or at least a lot of them. When I make a collection where I want all the library except I use the following

rating:>=0 ANDNOT type:commentary

Since all items have a rating of 0 or above, it best represents everything.

NOT is not an operator so it will produce results that have "not" somewhere in the metadata or text.

An alternative to the use of ANDNOT is unary - eg.

rating:>=0 -type:commentary
