I woke up today and I can tell God is smiling my direction. Logos 4 had finish indexing after a day or so and is up to date 4.5a as far as I know there were no updates to pull today. Also Logos 4 took 23-24 seconds to open and another for homepage which is fast like the day I brought it. (2,546 books)
This is a great deal better then the weeks before I reloaded my laptop. Now if God would give my vet the full biopsy report with a answer to help my dog day would be perfect (No pressure Jesus :P)
Today will be a good day regardless
Hey thats great news!!!!! Randall. Hopefully in time you will be able to master the basics and move to a productive and indepth Bible study. I went to bed last eve thinking about your situation and was asking for some direction, I have been a Logos users since L2 and know that it is a great program, I do not have the Scholars or the Portfolio but know some that do and they like it.
Patience is a virtue, so I have read and heard.....
Again I am happy to hear that all is well. [;)] [<:o)]
It would be a good idea to peruse the help video's from the wiki thingiee, it will help you in a more personal setup of some layouts for study's.

Donovan Looks good. I like how fast it open may Logos should think about a fast boot app that sits in the background allowing for it to open faster. Logos may cost more then others but I will say it is the easy one for PC's I am not a Mac person.

Glad that it is working for you! I don't know if it is possible, but perhaps you might consider updating your original post for future people who dig up this thread. People have a habit of making judgments based on the first post and not reading the whole thread.

I can't edit the first post will not let me. For the record I don't hate the software but, I would like to know how to maintain it so it doesn't get slow again.

The forum only lets you edit posts for the first few hours after you make them.
Yes, it would be good if Logos provided recommended maintenance strategies to keep the software running well. We've all grown accustomed to defragging our hard disk periodically, removing unnecessary startups, etc., to keep Windows running well. There must be some things we can do with Logos.

Good thing you wrote that in the Windows forum, rather than General. I've never defragged a hard disk in my life. [;)]

I've actually only done it once a long time ago. I was using that sentence in a general sense. Personally, I never need to defrag. I always buy mongo powerful machines with gobs of hard disk space. And I spend less for them than I would for a less powerful Mac. [;)]

They both mean the same thing. Mondo has made it as an official word in the dictionary http://www.wordnik.com/words/mondo (Interesting etymology: "From mondo (bizarro), very bizarre, from Italian Mondo (Cane), (A Dog's) World, name of movie with bizarre scenes that was a cult favorite in the 1960s.")
But mongo is also slang for huge or hugely (comes from humongous): http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mongo (defs #5, #10). Not to be confused with the derogatory ethnic slur which I hadn't even been aware of before looking it up on Urban Dictionary.

When I hear a new word that is catching on I've often wondered about the first person to use the word. What is the motivation? Did it just slip out inadvertantly and somebody overheard and decided it was a good word to use? Or did they give it a lot of thought and finally decided that the word was appropriate for what they wanted to say and began using it? At what point is the word selected to be includined in the "official" dictionaries? And when the pronunciation of an established word gets changed (sadist, suite, Caribbean), who decides which pronunciation is correct?
Language is ever evolving and changing. Good thing or we would all be speaking Old English. Well, at least in the English speaking countries we would. But sometimes a word just seems to crop up out of nowhere (signage comes to mind) and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. I suppose that is why there are people who have doctorates in the subject. To figure it all out and keep the rest of us sane.
I realize that none of this has anything to do with Logos, but sometimes my mind just wanders as I drink my coffee in the morning, and peruse the forums. These are the kinds of things that crop up. Have a good week everyone! [:D]
Blessings,
Bob

I am running on a 7 year old dual core AMD Athlon using Windows 7 (64 bit). My response is crisp.
First and foremost: make sure you don't have adware or viruses! Then limit the number of programs in your startup. I use CCleaner (free) to clean my startup and regustry, Microsoft Security Essentials (free) for my antivirus and adware, and when I browse I use Firefox with NoScript to prevent problems. There are many other ways to go but that is what I use and I have good performance.
For Logos, mostly I just limit my visual filters and don't go to the Home page on start up. I do have the Perseus collection, but I haven't noticed too many problems. Yes, my program takes a minute or so to start up, but if you need instant access, consider leaving Logos running most of the day (or even multiple days - I've had mine run for a week or more with no ill effects)
I hope this helps.

Bob, these are some of the things that fascinate me. Thanks for your pondering post. I guess "majority rules" in pronunciation decisions, and the dictionary editors try to assess what is the most common usage; they will often give two or more alternatives. In some cases there is no one correct way to pronounce something, as it differs regionally. I have been awaiting the completion of the Dictionary of American Regional English, which I see now is finally almost finished. Now, however, I wish it were a digital resource. It's kind of too expensive to buy anyway, as just a rich tome for browsing. But all libraries should own it.

I think Logos software has become complete garbage ever since they changed it from being a downloadable application into literally a website. I know the main motivators are greed of course, which is where most "developers" reside and desire to control software so less people can pirate God's word, great job! Uninstall...

Logos is still a downloadable application. They have expanded access to the downloadable software with a subscription service. They have also done a nice job developing the Web app.

Interesting observation. In my opinion if someone steals Logos software it is the same as the person who breaks into my house and takes everything I have. But it's okay, because they also took my bibles.
Somehow that just not seem right.

Downloadable, yet runs through a IE browser? That is not a stand alone application. It's a localized website. It's also funny how you were persuaded that copyright for digital software which is like replicating air has the same copy right as a physical product. Please!

Anyways, I have uninstalled it with urgency. I like PC BIBLE STUDY v5 way more, and am going to continue to use it after trying this "localized website". Bye bye

Yuriy, are you having fun posting? It only took one of your posts for me to know that you do not find Logos to your liking. That's fine - don't give it a chance. But please, quit wasting the time of those who read the forums. Thankyou. Have a blessed triduum.

Bye bye. Hopefully you are not using 🏴☠️ version.

Sounds like you are using the web app. First off, don't use IE. Almost every website works better on any other browser. Second, there is a desktop app that you can download:
Third, you are not just paying for air. You are paying for the countless hours of work that developers have put into the software and the energy and hardware it takes to host your books on a server 24/7 with a lifetime backup AND the hours and hours the authors worked to produce the materials that you are using.

I just started getting email the other day on this topic. Logos is free software you are just paying for books. The underline software is and as always been free. Since books cost a lot or lay people like me have no idea where to start they put together packages of books. The software is very limited without buying a package. I guess I brought this back with logos 4 why would I be getting this email? LOL I own what is now call Sliver which for me is more books I ever need. I did buy all the ebible addon books because I used to have all the ebible software. I think going to the web app even through I have the PC app is awesome. My computers seem sluggish at times with Logos cause it taxers my system. So the way I see it if I can use my library on their server then I get a better experience. I used to help out in Sunday school with kids. The puzzle feature was handy. I think I paid $600-700 for the package I got. They keep emailing me trying to get me to upgrade but like I say I have so much information now I see no need. I will buy a book like 3:16 etc if my favorite writer has something I like but for another package I doubt I will buy one.
