I finally got logged on but now it says that it is downloading updates, it says 0% of 9.10 Gb and has been stuck on this for over 3 hours now. Is any one else having this trouble?

No, I haven't and I don't think I have seen that particular problem reported on the forum before. Can you post your logs?
I finally quit and started again this time it did not show the box with downloading updates this time it shows waiting for indexer. I wonder if this means that I am making progress?
It means that something was going on before, even though it didn't seem like it. You probably have much more to download, so be patient.
