Dual upgrade

Some people are asking for my advice about upgrading to version 4. At this point, I cannot with a good conscience recommend Logos 4 until it is completed in the 2Q of 2010. However, the upgrade pricing is too good to miss right know. Would it be possible for Logos to offer both L3 and L4 disks for upgrades? So for example, if a person had the L3 Bible Study Library and upgraded to Scholar’s they would receive both the L3 and L4 installation disks.

I don't think you're likely to see that offer.

HOWEVER....

If you install L4, set it up with your books and then install L3 by download from the support section of the site, and sync your licenses against the server, you can download most of your books from the FTP site and run L3 until later if you wish.

I don't even use L3 myself any more. The few features that I don't have yet, I'm just ignoring. Not everyone can do that I know - but that's my choice.

The upgrade pricing is good right now, and not likely to last until 2Q of 2010. So why not buy now? You loose nothing really. Those with L3 will be upgraded to their new licenses and, as the new resources become available for L3 they'll be able to use them there too.

For anyone planning to go to L4 anyway, especially if they already own L3, there is no downside to upgrading now, and every financial incentive to do so.

BTW, L4 doesn't need installation disks, and I wouldn't recommend them unless a person did not have a broadband connection, or have data cap restrictions. L4 does use a lot of bandwidth to start and updates itself automatically. Even a disk is not likely to avoid all, or even most of the downloading, depending on how many resources, or what program updates are new.

I've been using L4 nearly exclusively since Beta testing days, and cannot recommend L3 over L4 for anyone who meets the system requirements Logos publishes on their web site.

I realize that you can download the resources in L3, but you would not get the L3 addins. I really think the long term potential for L4 is great, but until it is done it is nice to have L3 as a backup. I am sure that I will find myself using L4 more and more, but I still use L3 more.

The Logos 4 ("LE") collections contain the LDLS3 addins from the corresponding "ND" collections in LDLS3 (for users who want to run the older version of the software by itself or side-by-side).
