Beta Fix?

I was reading about all the difficulties some of you are having… Since we don't know when a fix might be coming and some of you might need your install ASAP, I was wondering if this might work: Would it be possible to download and install the stable version on a different user account in OSX and bring the resource & index files over using the "install on multiple computers" technique? I am not a techie, but it was the best solution I could think of.

If have adequate disk space available, then installing stable Logos 4 using a different OS X account can be done.

Personally have had Logos 4 installed in three different accounts on an iMac; added read permission to some home directory folders so one use user could scan resources in another user's Logos4 folder.

Edit: wiki has Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs => Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X that includes scan command examples.

Would it be possible to use a virtual Windows machine (using VMWare) to run Logos 4, but use a scan command command like you mention? Are the file types comparable across the Windows-OSX divide? This would use substantially less HDD space, would it not?

My understanding of the scan command is that L4 will either copy or move the resources to the Logos 4 folder on Windows.

Yes, but you will still need two copies to run two different installations (Windows and Mac).

Yes; wiki Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X section includes Logos 4 resource paths on Windows and Mac. Wiki => Quick Installation onto multiple computers method 3 uses scan command. For virtualization tips, wiki has Logos 4 Mac => Need Logos 4 PC feature?

By the way, some SQLite database files include the operating system file path. Mac and Windows have very different file path conventions.

Logos 4 resource files are the same for Windows and Mac.

No; scan command copies files from scan path into your Logos 4 folder along with updating SQLite database files and indexing. Technically quite challenging to share a set of resource files between two Logos 4 installations. Each Logos 4 folder has a set of SQLite database files that has resource information, including last update date, so resource updating has potential issues. Downloading to one Logos4 installation, then using scan command to copy to another Logos 4 installation works.
