Hey I'm new to Logos, and I'm curious: how does Pre-pub work? Thanks for your help guys!
Blessings
Jordan, welcome to Logos and the Forums.
Pre-pub is a way for Logos to gauge whether there is high enough demand for a resource to actually go to the work of producing it. They set a price that if enough people are willing to commit to buy the resource for that price they can at least break even. If you place an order for the pre-pub, that is entered as a 'vote' for the pre-pub. If enough people pre-order, the resource eventually goes into production and some time later those who placed a pre-order are notified that it is about to be released and their credit card charged. Within a few days or up to a week or so later, the resource is released, Logos will download it and your credit card will be charged the pre-pub price. After that the price goes up (often quite a bit).
So if you see a resource you'd like to have produced in Logos format on the pre-pub page and can afford to make the commitment for it and wait to see if it makes it into production, you'll get it at the best price it will probably ever be offered.
Community pricing is another way to get great prices (on public domain works), and Logos has period sales. March Madness should be coming up in about a week.
You get to order resources for a vastly reduced price before they go into production. It's a way for Logos to get enough orders up front to justify the development work (cover their cost ahead of time, basically). And in return, we get giant discounts. Your credit card doesn't get charged until it ships. After it ships, the price jumps up.
So keep an eye open for the books coming through the pipeline in pre-pub. It is one of the best ways to grow your library.

Hey Jordan,
Welcome to the forums. Pre-Pub is a way for you to get a resource at a lower price than you would normally. It allows you to lock in the lowest price possible for a resource and once there are enough orders to cover the cost, the resource ships and you have instant access to your book or books.
Also, look at our Community Pricing page. There, you will find an even better way to get some amazing deals on some of our most popular items.
I hope this helps.

Jordan - Welcome to the forums!
Pre-Pubs are a way that Logos can offer a discount (generally) on projects before they begin. You do not pay for the resource until it ships. Sometimes resources are quick… other times they take a while (12+ months) Most of the time the price goes higher afterwards… Sometimes, however, the prices are set by the publisher.
Another option is community pricing, which is a way for Logos to gauge interest in public domain works. Logos determines how much it will cost to produce a resource. Users then have the option to "bid" on how much they are willing to pay. Logos could sell 100 licenses @ $10 or 10 licenses @ $100.
Is there a particular resource you are interested in?
Welcome [:D]
Wonder if thread discussion => Prepub / Community Pricing answers your pre-publication question ?
Caveat: Logos sales are typically more than pre-publication price. In April 2011, Logos had a Facebook sale with a couple items below pre-publication price => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/31946/237802.aspx#237802 (no idea if Logos will repeat special sales)
Keep Smiling [:)]
Welcome. I know that you find Logos to be a great tool.
Prepub is a generally a great opportunity to buy books at an excellent discount by preordering the book. The idea is a win-win. Logos ensure they have enough interest to ensure the make money before investing the time in a book. Users benefit by generally getting the best discount that will be available for the book.
When Logos a book available on Prepub it generally moves from 'gathering interest' to 'development underway' as preorders are placed. When the book is about to be completed, an expected ship date is posted. Just prior to availability an email annoucement is sent to those who have preordered it, and when the book becomes available each person's credit card is billed. At any time the preorder can be cancelled by the users without penality until the final book availability.
No risk. Great opportunity. Seldom will the book become available for this price again (although at times it might). For a few books there is no discount - just an opportunity to ensure that the book is published in Logos, and the final price is the same as the prepub price, but usually there is a hefty discount.
(Boy you have to be quick here - everyone else got to the question first - another great service with Logos is the many helpful folks on the forums.)
