Indexing has stopped

Ok- I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with 4gb of memory- started a new install today at 1 pm- everything went fine till now-

error: "Logos Bible Software Indexer Has Stopped Working" with 2 hrs 8 min left.

I was having this problem originally when I called tech support- was told my 1 GB mem was the issue- so I bought 2- 2GB sticks installed and now- the same issue.

Man I could really use some good advise here.

Whyndell, there could be a bad file there somewhere. If you post your install logs it may help the techs or one of the more knowledgeable users to identify the issue

One thing to check is if you have any of the old .lsf/.lsx resources in the resource directory. A few of those Logos has not been able to check. Perhaps you have one of the 'lucky ones'. You could move these out of the directory temporarily if you have any.

Damian's suggestion about log files might be of help.

In the data folder I have to folders:

3bwswvri.h31 and exlh3uwl.sjv they both have the same folders and resources in them?

3bwswvri.h31 is the same folder in my Dell 1720- should I delete this folder and leave the other?

Whyndell, did you try the process for installing on multiple computers outlined on these forums? It does mean, if you have a fully functional version on one computer, that you do not have to perform a full index on another.

The only thing that I did wrong was that I didn't just delete all the folders. I also deleted a .db file.... It had to rebuild that which took a little time.

Nevertheless, a complete uninstall (deleting the remaining folders) followed by the install above saved me about 22 hours!

Ok am I going to have to delete Logos4, then reinstall?

Then after it starts its 1, 2 3 thing- it generally pops up and ask u to sign in- sign let it start and kill it?

EDIT The complete process is:

    * copy all folders under ...\Logos4\Data\{random}\ from working installation to an External drive

  * download Logos4 from

      http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/Logos4Setup.exe

    * choose Custom installation if you want to install in a folder of your choice

    * Sign-in and Cancel the download when it finally starts (after some preparation)

  * Pause Indexer and kill Logos4Indexer.exe in Task Manager ++

    * Close Logos4

    * delete all folders under ...\Logos4\Data\{random}\

    * copy folders from external drive to above location

    * start L4

Uninstall Logos4 and Logos4 Prerequisites through control panel.

Find the Logos 4 folder and delete it (I believe that even after uninstall, the resource folder and some other stuff is still there)

Follow Dave's instructions and do not do what I did - delete only the folders under .\Logos4\Data\{random}\

Copy the folders from your other install into this location.

Hope it works.

Please note that some others did seem to have a problem with blank resources coming up after the install. They then had to delete the ResourceManager.db file and allow v4 to rescan for resources (though no indexing is required)

Also, update your base install to SR6 before starting

From the top of my head - and maybe Dave can jump in here - you can cancel straight away. I killed everything at the beginning.

But, if you're not sure. Just wait until it has gone through 1-2-3 and then click on the task bar icon and cancel the download.

Cancel the download as soon as you can right click the blue icon in taskbar and see a "Cancel" option! If indexing starts then pause the Indexer and Kill it!

Well it worked- thanks a lot guys for the help and encouragement [Y][{][}]

I realize now why the transfer wasn't working- I was deleting and pasting the whole random folder- not just its contents.

Once I did that had a dditional download of some resources, a 30 min index and looks like everything is up and running on my 10th machine.
