Logos and Apple Log

Anyone here know how to read a Mac Log and let me know what is wrong and how to fix it?

I can't, but it would be helpful to attach the log instead of pasting it into the thread. My finger hurts trying to scroll. [;)]

Have you tried restarting Logos and pressing (and holding) the command key immediately after launch? This will allow you to enable logging for one session and start with a blank layout.

You can attach a log (or photo) using the paper clip icon in the formatting pallet when you are writing a post.

I found the culprit. The anti-tracking tool - Ghostery was downloaded last week (and was working fine, etc. for a few days), I removed it and now everything is back to normal - Logos is back up, no more spinning pizzas.

Now I need to locate a new anti-tracking tool that is Logos 4 compatible.

Ghostery worked the end of last week (when it was downloaded) and this weekend and then this morning went dead - with Logos 4 suffering a 'ghostly' unexplainable problem. I just downloaded DNT+ so hopefully it will do better.

Looking at Apple diagnostic crash report, noticed stable Logos 4 (4.51.0.2048) on OS X 10.7.3 being used so can call or email Logos Mac Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact

Other option is enabling diagnostic logging, restart Mac, launch Logos 4 Mac. If Logos 4 Mac crashes again, compress, then attach zip file to a forum reply.

Optional: download and use 5504.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip to display your logging setting, then change to enable logging.

Optional: download and use Logos Log Scribe application to create a zip file on your desktop that includes your diagnostic logs plus a copy of console messages.

fgh and Alabam24 thanks for telling me that Ghostery WORKED on your computers w/ Logos 4, etc. This and the fact everything started up again this morning - spinning pizza of death, beach ball of death (whatever one desires to call it, et. al.) - made me re-examine what the problem was or could be .... so I posted on another forum ....

Under Safari > Preferences > Advanced there is a location at the bottom called "database storage." You can set it to certain limits. Mine was set at "1 MB." Per another person on another website, I changed it to "5 MB." I reloaded Ghostery. Everything has worked for the last 6 hours or so. So, "I think" everything is working again. I have tried to crash it by opening up numerous applications - and everything appears "ok." But some more time is needed as some fixes to this appear to be temporary - as witnessed yesterday ....

I'm afraid I have to take back a bit of that "etc". It turned out this morning that my 2-3 months old inability to log into Uservoice on Safari was due to Ghostery, It worked fine on the old Uservoice site, and now that I've unchecked the right box it works again. And I'm still not aware of any compatibility issues with Logos software.

I have been in touch with Apple numerous times today. Logos is using too many resources - confirmed by activity monitor and Apple (they have looked at 14 reports like the first one here ...), etc. ... Just in case, we attempted repairing the HD and even re-installed Mac OS x - still having the same Logos 4 problem - non-functioning - freezing entire computer ....

Apple suggests removing Logos - all 5500 or so books and then seeing if the problem is still there ...

Is there a quick way of reloading Logos from another Mac so I do not lose all my settings, etc.?

I must admit this is rather frustrating. Purchase computers for the main purpose of running Logos and then ....

Curious about fixes. Wiki Mac Troubleshooting => Slow Performance has many tips and tweaks. Personally have learned to monitor memory usage when using Logos 4 Mac so know when to restart Mac since some memory leak issues need Mac restart to reset memory.

Note: building a library index (5.44 GB) for 6,277 resources (17.35 GB) takes 9.5 hours on a 2.93 GHz Quad Core i7 iMac with 16 GB RAM running Mac OS X 10.6.8

While I appreciate your suggestions, most of them are ALREADY being used. Slow performance (better phrase would be NO PERFORMANCE) is being caused by Logos using over 300% of resources. I already have a VERY fast Mac Mini - you can see the specs in the report above (if memory serves me right - i7, 2.7 GHz, 8 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6630M, etc.). However, it is not the fact that it is SLOW - it absolutely FREEZES - nothing works because of Logos, etc.

The problem is that Logos is unstable. I am not sure why this suddenly began happening, but at the end of the day - Logos is unstable. There are no viruses, the HD has no corrections that need to be made, Mac OS X is up to date and just reloaded today, etc. It is not the Mac !!! (purchased new app. 11/2011).

I think Time Machine may be my best bet for reloading Logos - back dating it to last week.

PS: the indexing of my books was done months ago ....

Apologies: [:$] went back to re-read posted pdf of an Apple diagnostic crash report, which has line wrapping compared to viewing diagnostic report using Apple's Console utility. Last couple printed report pages has hardware specs; your memory is correct.

A Logos4.log file is not possible right now. Though I have it set up to do it, when Logos 4 freezes the entire computer I have to do a hard reset. When I do and then reboot there are no logs for Logos .... However, this is better than yesterday when Logos would not even open and still crashed the computer.

Someone else has suggested removing all the caches and then rebooting. So as soon as my post asking how to do it is answered I will attempt that. Possibly something is in it that is causing the problem .....

A Logos4.log file is not possible right now.

When diagnostic logging is enabled, launching Logos 4 Mac should start writing lines to Logos4.log file (before anything appears on screen). The first line should have "Starting application" plus version number.

Logos 4 Mac freezing computer before starting to write a diagnostic log file could be corrupt cache and/or corrupt application bundle.

A corrupt application can be deleted (moved to trash), followed by downloading application, then dragging Logos application to your desired folder (nominally Applications). Wiki => Uninstalling and Reinstalling Logos 4 Mac has stable and beta download links. Caveat: beta can be a bit more buggy (sometimes a lot more) than stable.

The cache is deleted. No problems ***so far*** but I will need to see how it goes for a number of hours / days before I may say it is repaired.

I have been dealing with one person at Tech Support. He is probably just busy and has not had an opportunity to re-address my concerns.

Latest update.

Ok a friend - Apple Genius - came over after the situation reappeared yet again. In 5 minutes last night he said it was more than likely the Anti-Virus interfering with Logos.

So, just in case someone else runs into a similar problem:

We removed Sophos Anti-virus. The computer immediately speed up - I hadn't really seen it slow down any (the frog in the water comes to mind ....).

Anyway it has been faster and absolutely no problems - no spinning beach balls of death. Logos is once again logging .... even though now I do not need them ....

SO, I *** THINK *** i is fixed ......

It never caught a thing - but we have only had the Mac Mini since around Nov 2011 or so. However, My wife runs a Mac Lab (since 2003 or so ...) of around 30 computers (teaching, not techy) and they have never had a problem either. I have removed Sophos now from my MacBook Pro too - though it did not appear to have the same problem ....
