A QUESTION: How quickly does tethering to an iPhone (I have the 4S, which has worse battery life than a 4 or 3G) drain the iPhone battery? That's one reason I could see getting a 4G iPad 3 with it's own data plan.
I tether my iPad 2 to my 4S and it does not seem to significantly increase the battery use. It does increase some but it is not to the point of being useless. I have tethered for a couple of hours at times and still had plenty of battery left. I got the wifi only and plan on tethering the new iPad as well.

I got the engraving on mine so that may be why it wasn't shipped locally.
Yes, although it is not uncommon for Apple products to be shipped from China. They are included in a large pallet of products, then sent out individually in the states. They have the process down very well, and estimated delivery dates are generally pretty good. Delays are generally because of manufacturing.

Me, too, Kevin. I did not buy the iPad 2 because I was waiting for the higher resolution screen and better processor. This time I am in.

I have 17,817 "songs" in my iTunes.
I just have about 300 songs, but 56 are by Buddy Holly!!! What more could you want???? Personally, haven't liked any song written after 1975.

My son bought it for me for Christmas then my husband bought one.
I plug it into the USB cord "iPad2 Power Adapter" to put a full charge as it is faster than via usb into laptop.
Then I'm ready to go and can be used on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad2.

I am considering a refurbished iPad 2 and saw the concerns about the fonts being fuzzy; however, when I looked at them in our local Best Buy and reading an eBook, I really did not see an issue. I have read my Kindle books on my Android Tablet and did not see any problems there either. I opened several apps in the store and did not have a problem reading anything.

How are you doing this? I have iTether, but their site says you can't use it between iOS devices yet. I can use it between my 4S and a laptop or desktop, but not another mobile device.

I just turn on the mobile hotspot feature in settings on the iPhone and then select "Alan's iPhone" in the wifi settings on my iPad. It is a paid feature I have as part of my Verizon plan.

Compared to new iPad, older iPad's are a bit fuzzy. Apple has has a text comparison with moveable magnifying glasses => http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/ With 3.5x magnification, can see fuzziness on previous generation iPad's.
Noticed comparison article => http://blogs.computerworld.com/19913/new_ipad_vs_ipad_2_office_faceoff with similar results: all iPad's have readable displays.

The text on the Logos app look amazing and is a joy to read. I don't have an iPad 2 to compare, however, the Olivetree app has not been updated to retina display yet and the text on that look really fuzzy (not a criticism, just an observation as I am sure they will be updating soon).
For me, it is with the text that the retina display really is noticeable. So much sharper, and in my opinion is worth the extra expense for this feature only.

As a point of reference I have 467 books downloaded on my iPad, which are generally reference books, and the Logos app takes up 3.9 GB
As another reference point, I have 293 resources downloaded which takes 4.5GB.
These are primarily commentaries and encyclopedia.

YAPoR: I downloaded about 1,600 resources on to the iPad, and it says Logos is taking up 6.7 GB. I noticed the image heavy resources took the longest to download, so I assume those take up the most space.

I meant what do the new iPad owners here have to say about the reported poor Wi-Fi performance vs. the iPad 2? Connection drops, lower Wi-Fi signal strength, etc. (read the Gizmodo article I linked to)

Sorry about that. Obviously too giddy about the display ;-)
I've had no issues with the wifi as far as I am aware, but don't have an iPad 2 to compare. Seems comparable to my iPhone 4.

Yes, I am having issues. I have to sign out and sign back in quite often. I hope apple has a software patch for this soon. It is not a deal breaker and I have streamed video over the new iPad but a fix would be nice.

I am not having any problems with wifi reception. However, I am not convinced that the battery life is as good as my ipad2, although I could just be spending more time on the new one.

i'm considering as well. i compared the two last night at a store. 3 is definitely better than two, but it wasn't always evident. but i opened the Evernote app, and so a few letters (like an initial "f" letter) that looked noticeably washed out and fuzzy. and several that weren't as clear as 3. increasing the font size seemed to help. But even with that, I really can't afford the 3, so I am now deciding between 16 GB and 32GB refurb. The only decision is whether I really have the cash for the increased storage. What are you looking at?
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.

BTW, I have not experienced any wifi problems with the 3, nor any heat issues. I haven't taken the graphics to any extremes--I haven't had time to play a video game in about 10 years. It seems like the iPad 3 doesn't handle extreme load as well as the previous versions, but for the average user here, I think it will be okay. For reading/research (aka Logos) purposes, it's an ideal machine.

No, I'm just an innocent observer. I have never had an iPad and don't know that I can justify it when a laptop is what I really need for on-the-go Logos use, as well as needing a new desktop computer - my current one is 7 years old and is displaying its slowness. My wife is more interested in a camera than the iPad right now, so my thoughts of buying a new iPad 3 are less certain than they were a week ago. But it makes sense to get the new iPad now rather than wait too long so one can get a full year's worth out of it before we see the iPad 4, or 2 years' worth if one wants to wait for the iPad 5, as we know the price isn't going to drop.

Pleased to report that I've had no detectable issues with the WIFI connection on the new iPad. Also, I haven't noticed it getting uncomfortably hot either - even when playing a new game I downloaded (Sky Gamblers flight sim) which was designed for the new iPad and is meant to push the iPad to its limits!

I have had my iPad for a week and I love it. Absolutely no heat or WiFi problems, although I do have it in a nice case so maybe I can't tell.
