How do you close a book and stop a split screne

I'm new to IPAD and a Windows user. I'm really frustrated because I can't figure out how to do simple things like closing books. Al

Hi Alan - and welcome to the forums.
You don't really close a book in the iPad app - you just open new ones!
What, specifically, are you wanting to do?
You also mention split screens in your subject field. To remove them you drag the semi-circle at the bottom of the screen to the right of the screen.
