Searching for the words of God

Hey all,

I'm new to Logos, just bought it last week (Silver base package). I'm slowly learning how to search and utilize resources effectively, so hopefully someone can help me out.

I want to do a study of the explicit words of God--anything God actually spoke to people in the Bible (i.e. making covenants with Abraham, God's voice at Jesus' baptism, etc.).

Is there any way to search like this?

In the OT, no... in the NT, the search term WOC:* should find all the instances Christ spoke. I have it running on my system, but a tactical error (trying it while indexing after adding a resource) is preventing it from finishing the search...

I should mention that even then, it'll miss instances where God spoke apart from Jesus.

It'd be nice to have, but that info just isn't coded....

Thanks Bill, that's definitely helpful.

Would there be any kind of work-around that might not use Logos coding, but can still somehow find God's words?

One option is a Bible search for:

(Lord,God,Jehovah,Jesus,Yahweh,Yeshua) BEFORE 1-3 WORDS (said,saidst)

that finds many results. Caveat: this search does not include personal pronouns for God. Also, some Bibles have a word order: "Thus said God to the woman" that can be found by changing search to:

(Lord,God,Jehovah,Jesus,Yahweh,Yeshua) WITHIN 1-3 WORDS (said,saidst)

which also finds other phrases like: "Abraham said to God"

Not that I'm aware of... many have asked in the past... don't remember anyone coming up with a workaround, set of search terms, etc., that caught all the instances you want.

Just reran WOC:* after indexing... on my slow machine, it doesn't seem to come back. If I know at least some words of what Christ said, WOC: helps me find them, not too sure the * will help us find all the instances, though.

Search gurus? Time to weigh in...

Thread => The words of Jesus has a search for all Words of Christ, which is a bit faster than a single wild card.

You can do it in the Old Testament using Anderson-Forbes markings and within the context of a Syntax search as per below:

I don't know Hebrew - but just happen to know this technique is available!

It seems to return a hit on each word so takes some filtering down.

Hope this helps a bit

Personally learned Psalms 81:2 has Accusation tagging, same as Genesis 4:6
