Bug or intentional? Reference search results

I ran a basic search for a single verse being referenced in a single PB resource. The search results returned the verse where it was within a small range but not a large range. For instance if I searched for Matt 5:4 it would register a range like Matt 5:1-11 but it would not register a hit for a range like Matt 4-10.

I can understand if this is intentional as it may return too many useless results for a normal search. However is there a way to make Matt 4-10 a hit on such a search?

I have tried to reproduce this and failed!

I have a PB which has a reference to John 1:18 and it finds it when I search the whole of John's Gospel

So I think there must be something specific to your context.

Are you able to post shots of both searches?

Graham, are you understanding his search correctly? It sounded like he was searching for a single verse and wanted a large range that enclosed it to be found as a hit but that wasn't happening. You'd need to make a PB that mentioned a range of chapters in John and search for one verse within that large range. I don't have time to try it out right now.

Thats correct. In the below example I wanted the green circled reference to be returned as a hit.

By default, a Bible reference search performs a "narrow" match (to avoid returning lots of references that include your query term, but may be pretty irrelevant).

You can override this by explicitly specifying the "intersect" operator, to find everything that intersects:
